I for years used no7 was perfect but they've changed formula now I'm stuck. Have tried cheapy collection 2000 too chalky and sticks in pores but don't want to spend £££ on something that I need to keep replacing. Anything under £25

After my beloved Bobbi Brown illuminating powder dropped on the floor and smashed, I picked up a Revolution pressed CC powder. It's bloody amazing. My skin feels like silk. It's the one in the gold packaging (that feels and sounds very luxurious!)

Ponks · 18/05/2022 09:47

Have similar skin. IT Cosmetics pressed powder is great and lasts ages. Pricey but often 20% off eg in Boots or Look Fantastic.
I've used a very good one by Revolution but can't remember what it was called - sorry no help really! - it was under £10.
Finally I have used Soap & Glory one heck of a blot pressed powder for years, it's a staple in my handbag , good at mattifying and not chalky.

Thanks will check these out :)

My favourite is Bare Minerals pressed mineral veil. It's lovely and light, doesn't stick on pores, looks natural and does the job.

WrinklesShminkles · 18/05/2022 14:22

MAC Blot is good but £24

Typical pressed powder just looks cakey on me. I highly recommend the Hourglass ambient lighting powder, it's more of a "brush on" and is amazing. I have very pale thin skin and it just makes me look more awake and yet "blurred" ( I wouldn't get a job as a beauty reviewer would I Grin).

It's a lot more expensive at around £45 but I see it as an investment as it lasts forever (certainly more than twice as long as a pressed type powder compact) and you can get free samples at Space NK etc. When I couldn't afford it I would rather have a bare face while I saved than buy something cheaper!

Nitgel · 18/05/2022 19:39

I got the soap and glory, seems good. I am looking at those Hourglass Ambient powders too , as it's my birthday soon 😃

@Nitgel. I have recently purchased the ambient light palette 1 and 2. Omg amazing is all I can say. Well worth the money

@PAFMO what shade do you have? I’m going to try it. I’m fair skinned and usually just go for translucent for powder but they have quite a range of colours so thinking maybe ivory x

TheVolturi · 18/05/2022 20:25

W7 Banana Dreams is very good for my skin. I'm quite olive toned and can be oily. I'm 40 and previously could just any powder but I was finding it was looking cakey and sitting in my creases. This powder has a slight yellow tone which evens skin tone and its really finely milled. And it's about £4!

I have the Ivory. I'm also fair, I'm a Calico in N7 and various combinations of Ivory-Porcelain-Fair-Half dead in everything else. Grin
When it came (I got it online) I was oh lordy, this will be OK for Halloween because it looks white. But it's a CC powder, so I guess it's supposed to.
It's brilliant. It's one of those products that you feel good just putting it on!

Daffodil77 · 19/05/2022 09:44

The beauty pie powder is very good. Very finely milled. They also do a very good dupe of the hourglass ambient lighting palette. Similarly to the above user, I use this as a powder over my foundation instead.

superstar63 · 19/05/2022 13:37

Are any of these good for covering redness, broken veins etc. without looking powdery? I also have large pores by nose .

Goldengoosey · 19/05/2022 16:00

@PAFMO thanks. I’ve ordered in warm ivory. Trying to avoid the half dead look 😂

BonjourCrisette · 19/05/2022 18:43

I haven't got a powder recommendation, but this stuff has really sorted out my enlarged pores: https://theordinary.com/en-gb/niacinamide-10-zinc-1-serum-100436.html

Nitgel · 22/05/2022 18:27

I'll look out for that bounjour. with regard to the Hourglass ambient powders I tried Space NK in Oxford circus but the girls in there were bored and unhelpful so I really don't know what to go for as there is such a choice. they said they didn't do testers or travel sizes either so it's a lot of money to spend without really testing. :*(

MissStarry · 22/05/2022 21:37

Yes I agree @BonjourCrisette I had large pores until finding this and recently stopped using it for a couple of weeks when moving house and got noticeably larger pores. Since reusing, they’ve shrunk again!

BonjourCrisette · 22/05/2022 23:15

@MissStarry It's fantastic stuff, isn't it? I was sceptical but I was absolutely amazed by the results.

@Nitgel If you are ever near Covent Garden they have an actual shop there. Otherwise mail order is quick and efficient. They have a few other products that I really really like and shipping is free for orders over something like £25. Would also recommend the Buffet serum and the retinol in squalane.

DailySheetWasher · 23/05/2022 00:24

OP you can definitely buy Hourglass powders in mini size. From memory there's a very pale one, and a medium one 'Dim' which is good as a bronzer/general warm up on pale skin.

Nitgel · 23/05/2022 09:50

What tester should I try for pale freckle skin, that I just want for powder non glittery effect ? Or one shade I can research?

Max Factor Facefinity Compact is a pressed powder foundation and it's amazing! I've used it for years and it's not cakey and works well with my oily skin and doesn't sink into my pores at all. It's not full coverage and I use it over tinted moisturiser or on its own.

Oh my goodness, I bought this on your recommendation, it's fantastic! I've ditched my Lily Lolo powder for it. I bought the translucent but I think I might try a shade but hard to know which one to buy.

Oh so pleased!
I actually really look forward to putting it on!
I'll not be buying Bobbi Brown at £40 a pop anymore!

@PAFMO

That's my skin type and it's fantastic. I bought mine from Amazon as it was on offer .
