Hair - to box dye this mess?

I had my hair dyed a month ago. It was the 3rd time I've been to this hairdresser; the first two times I was really happy with the root touch up plus low and high lights. This time she was in a rush as accidentally double booked so I said just the roots would be fine this time. Anyway it was darker than usual (and had dye on my towels 2 days later) but has now faded to this gingery tone which makes my roots look almost greasy when freshly washed. My grey roots are also much more visible. The longer lengths are fine. I should have gone back to complain at the time but didn't and now I have a party this weekend with no time to see a hairdresser (a different one...) . I have used box dyes before but I'm a bit concerned about all the different colours on my noggin at the moment. Any recommendations?

Box dye will even it out. Maybe try a semi permanent one and see how you get on? Go for something with ash tones to help with the red. Nice & Easy always works well for me. I'd try the dark ash blonde or light ash brown.

TBH with you it looks fine although yes the greys are coming in. Don't use a box dye whatever you do !

Don't do it! It's not great, looks a bit 90s but aren't the 90s back?! 😁It's easier to keep blonde rather than lifting out box dye, which will take a few visits. Can you use one of those root covering sprays by Loreal? Or just brush it up into an up do for the weekend.

I think box dyes would be risky with so many different shades going on. It's not noticeably bad- just leave until you can get booked in with a hairdresser.

Going against the grain here, could you try something like L'Oréal Casting Creme gloss in dark blonde or lighter? Work out the ratios you need to mix up a small amount in a separate dish and do somewhere underneath the back and if it's OK properly do the roots the next day (freshly mixing the 2 unused liquids together). Agee with others an ashy shade good.

I'd get a toner, superdrug have loads and try that.
Box dye might make it less even

I think your hair looks great,@PoppyBird - pretty, fresh and quite natural. My hair never comes out like that- that’s why I highlight my own hair (I feel I can ruin it just as well as the hairdresser!!).

If you’re still not sure, how about a semi-permanent light brown on for just a few minutes or an ashy toner to give a slightly tone down look without commitment?

Belated thank you for all your suggestions (app wasn't working on my phone). I decided against dyeing it, wasn't feeling brave enough. I did leave my silver shampoo on for a few extra minutes (20, I got distracted) to try to tone down the brassiness. Didn't work but it did turn the paler blonde light blue so that distracted from my roots. Every cloud....
