Do I need to use bleach on my armpits? Vim? Jif??

I am peri and my armpits stink. I use Mitcham and it is good but despite me literally scrubbing my pits with soap and an exfoliating glove there is a residue that smells that won't shift. And then putting more déodorant over the top just seems to seal it on?

I also wash bras every way or every other as I think they're holding the smell, and wait for the déodorant to be fully dry before getting dressed.

Anyone manage to get theirs truly, squeaky clean??

Look into driclor or perspirex. Watch out - use only a TINY bit on bone dry armpits, it stings. Or botox in armpits.

(Not at meno or peri stage yet but have had hyperhidrosis for over a decade)

ChardonnaysBeastlyCat · 17/05/2022 10:16

Try baking soda, it will shift it the snell.

MrOllivander · 17/05/2022 10:17

Make sure it's proper soap and not dove
Body scrub
Glycolic acid on armpits before antiperspirant
Sure/dove/Mitchum (the cream ones) applied at night.
Wash clothes with no fabric softener and add dettol laundry cleanser to the armpits of clothes and in the washing machine, you can soak them in it too

Lisheen21 · 17/05/2022 10:17

I'm the exact same, it's awful. I welcome all suggestions to remedy this

BernardsarenotalwaysSaints · 17/05/2022 10:21

Give St Ives face scrub a go. The original apricot one in the blue & white tube. Less than £3 from most supermarkets & Amazon. This happened to me with my last 2 pregnancies & I found that worked over everything else I tried.

Try baking soda, it will shift it the snell.

Or just bicarb, use it like talc and it'll shift the smell. I used this method and found it very good. And it's cheap.

Matchingcollarandcuffs · 17/05/2022 10:24

Thanks, we don't use fabric conditioner, I do use real soap (Marseille soap) but the Dettol is a good idea, think I'll soak all my tight tops/bras in done. I'm also using eco laundry stuff so will get some bio powder too.

I have glycolic I'm not using on my face (on tret) so will try that, with the new deodorants as back up. DH will 🙄though as I have a whole drawer of deodorant rejects, he can forget to use deodorant and work a full day and still feel fresh, I sweat just putting my knickers on

Aah I'm allergic to bicarb, discovered after making a huge vat of home made deodorant a few years ago

Proper soap.
Dry clothes inside out on the washing line if you have a garden.
Try and go deodorant free at weekends if possible. Or use natural salt spray based deodorant.

TheTurn0fTheScrew · 17/05/2022 10:37

I would only use driclor after trying everything else - it gave me incredibly sore, red armpits for days. Sure Maximum is very good but £££.

YY to using a bar of soap under your pits - definitely gets me fresher than shower gel.

Also if you are peri/menopausal are you possible now wearing too many clothes out of habit? Since my hysterectomy I need at least one layer less than I use to. I always used to feel the cold, and have a habit of automatically putting a vest under lighter tops, but now it's t-shirts all the way for most of the year.

Notanotherwindow · 17/05/2022 10:42

After you wash, wash them again with cold water. Seems to shift BO smell better than hot water. For clothes, use bio powder and a put on a cold rinse cycle.

jolietomate · 17/05/2022 10:58

I went through this when I first slid into perimenopause. Unfortunately, your hormones that are causing this. HRT is the only real solution.

In terms of removing the odour from your clothes, spray white vinegar or vodka on them, then scrub with soap, and then wash in the machine as normal. This is what I used to do. In terms of deodorant, I used Mitchum spray as it doesn’t leave residue. As much as I loved Mitchum stick, it never properly dried, gave me a fungal infection and stained all my clothes. That said, am back to no longer needing any deodorant.

Matchingcollarandcuffs · 17/05/2022 11:03

aah yes, I am currently immobile recovering from surgery so have had to stop HRT, didn't twig that is exacerbating things.

At least I feel less alone, I have three teens and smell worse than them

OP I used to live with a professional sportsman.. the gym/training kit/wet towels left in the car smells were something else. Dettol laundry cleaner (or the supermarket own brands) were amazing.

GetUpTheyStair · 17/05/2022 11:08

I use tea tree soap following by solid tea tree deodorant from potterandhare at Etsy. Both are gentle on the skin and fab for me post menopause.

hugoagogo · 17/05/2022 14:53

A few drops of zoflora in the softener compartment should sort out your armpitty washing.
I have switched to this deodorant it is brilliant at stopping me smelling and neutralising any existing smells. Make sure to get the sensitive version, the orange one works really well, but has bicarb in it.

moggerhanger · 17/05/2022 14:57

I get horrible smelly armpits on my running tops (tech fabric seems to hang onto the stink). This stuff shifts it beautifully - if there's any lingering pong I just soak overnight and run it through again. ecozone.com/products/sports-wash-2/
