Frustration with Philips Lumea and hormonal chin hair.

I have had great success with my lumea on legs, underarms and bikini line. Most hair is either not growing back or growing very slowly- I’m really pleased. However my menopausal chin hair is another matter. It just keeps growing back. The lumea doesn’t seem to be zapping any of the follicles there.
what’a going on?
anyone else had this? Does it just take much longer on hormonal hair? Reckon I have had it nearly 3 months now.
Thoughts welcome please🙂

I'm about to buy one of these for my perimenopausal beard. My legs have become almost hairless, it all seems to have migrated upwards! Following to see if I need to reconsider.

Fridafever · 15/05/2022 19:48

Sorry to say I’ve had the same experience- worked brilliantly on my legs but not my increasingly alarming facial hair. Waste of money for me, I don’t even bother with it as it’s so easy to shave my legs anyway.

KurriKawari · 15/05/2022 19:48

Which model do you have OP?

ABrotherWhoLooksLikeHellMugYou · 15/05/2022 19:50

I still need to pluck, but the lumea delays regrowth

Applesarenice · 15/05/2022 19:50

I’ve noticed a bit of improvement, but it’s definitely slower progress than other body parts

Fridafever · 15/05/2022 19:52

I did it for about six months with no obvious improvement but maybe I need to try even longer

BigButtons · 15/05/2022 20:51

I have the essential version. At times I think it is working on my face. The amount of re growth is reduced I think but some horrible thick black ones just keep growing . I will persist with it because everywhere else has been great from the get go. I have pale skin and dark hair so should be a good candidate.
I didn’t know if hormonal hair was more stubborn?

I thought plucking defeated the point? Like it removes the hair so there is no hair to conduct the light?

It didn't work on mine, I am currently having a course of ipl with a beautician. 4 rounds in tbh I'm not convinced that's doing it either. I'm still having to shave them every day.

ILoveMyMonkey · 15/05/2022 21:08

I have one and use it on my face due to PCOS beard. I was doing it weekly and shaving in between and like you it just didn’t seem to be working. One day I had enough and just plucked them all out. This made a huge difference and barely any grew back, so I kept on with the lumea and plucking in between and now have barely any regrowth. I wonder if the hair grows differently and just couldn’t fall out like it does on the legs or something. Anyway, persevere it is amazing when it does eventually work.

The instructions in mine said to shave, wax or pluck then use the lumea...

lesgalettes · 15/05/2022 22:20

I've been using mine on my bikini line fortnightly for a year and it's hardly done anything.

I would
love to do that. Maybe posher models allow for that. I just can’t work out how it can zap a follicle if the hair isn’t there.
I am sorely tempted as I am fed up of the stubble.
the rest of me is pretty well hair free for weeks at a time though! Not my head though of course, or my eyebrows😂😂
I will persevere!

I only pluck after I’ve zapped. Eventually plucked hairs regrow so when they start to regrow I’ll shave for about a week, then zap, then after zapping I’ll pluck for the few days the hairs are ‘dropping out’ for then I’m good for a long while. Then when I notice regrowth I’ll start the process again.

Im not sure about posher models, I have a Philips lumea corded version - I’m fairly sure the instructions all say the same, certainly mine say the same as pp ‘to shave, pluck or wax’.

tey it, you’ve nothing to lose surely?

ILoveMyMonkey · 16/05/2022 07:19
  • try not tey
PermanentTemporary · 16/05/2022 07:22

I believe there are just so many facial follicles that it's essentially an endless job... but I'm certain that mine is better than it otherwise would be. There are definitely areas that barely regrow, like my tache and little goatee that was developing before. Chinstrap, jawline and cheeks still going but not as thick as they would otherwise be.

SisterAgatha · 16/05/2022 07:58

Mine worked fantastically but did take time. I used on a 5 as I am v pale so maybe that helped.

i go over it again 6 monthly anyway.

megletthesecond · 16/05/2022 08:00

Stick at it. It's taken me a year to do my legs. I ended up zapping them most weeks after six months to kill the hairs off.

DorritLittle · 16/05/2022 08:07

I get mine threaded. It didn't really hurt either. Worth a try.

Rina66 · 16/05/2022 09:48

Mine is working, but I do it religiously and still have to pluck the odd hairs out. What I have noticed is that I don't get the angry chin blind spots, where a hair has got trapped and inflamed, so I'm keeping on.

BigButtons · 16/05/2022 16:32

Thanks everyone- I'll keep going. I'll zap again today as I have the stubble poking through again- they bloody grow from clean shaven to stable by the afternoon.
I might well pluck them after I've zapped them. They are so annoying.
When I plucked before I would get ingrown hairs and subsequent angry spots. Bloody menopause.
