Keeping linen shirt looking smartish

DazzlePaintedBattlePants · 15/05/2022 11:43

Any tips for keeping a linen shirt smart? 5 minutes after I put it on it looks a crumpled mess. I guess that is part of the charm but does rather rule it out for work purposes. Starching doesn’t seem to help much.

Any tips appreciated!

Hoping for the same solution. I love linen but As you say, totally rules out work

I wore linen for work. It’s supposed to look crumpled, as you say it’s part of its charm.

I wear a lot of linen, some are better than others at keeping a bit more un creased IYKWIM.

I tend to iron when damp and use spray starch then on a hanger never folded.

I live in a hot country and linen really helps me to keep cool.

Try spray starch?

Gingernaut · 15/05/2022 12:02

You can't.

It looks like you slept in it from the moment you pull it from the wardrobe.

Spray starch will keep button plackets and collars half way presentable, but the shirt will always crease where you do

It really does depend on the quality of the fabric. Thin linen will just turn limp and crumpled immediately. Thicker fabric (consequently more expensive) is more resilient.

Wear it with other, non-crumpled fabrics so it looks like a deliberate decision.

Tuck it in, roll the sleeves.

Maybe wear a knit vest/tank top or jacket over the top.

Creasing is the nature of linen, especially with body heat and humidity.
If you like the pristine look linen is not for you.
Some linen-blend fabrics fare better.

It still creases.
