Nose-ring Experiences

I’m thinking about getting a nose-ring. I’m in my early 40s but I think it’d suit me (maybe it’s a midlife crisis, who knows!).

Have any of you had one? Any tips? My nose runs a lot and I blow my nose multiple times a day all year round. Would that be a problem?

I would say as well salt water cleanses multiple times a day might actually dry the piercing out/have the opposite desired effect. I’ve always done twice a day and the occasional soak if it’s crusty.

I had mine pierced twice when I was a teen. Both times I took it out when I had a cold and it healed up. I'm tempted to go for it again. My teen DD thinks it won't be too embarrassing. Apparently having a fringe cut would be way worse...Confused

Are fringes not cool anymore? They have them in stranger things! Oh to be a teenage girl and know everything again 😂

Fizbosshoes · 25/05/2022 18:16

I mooted a side fringe - because I wanted one rather than I thought it was fashionable . Apparently this (according to DD) is a very bad idea. I don't want a full straight fringe, I don't think it would suit me and I would look about 10. 😂

Can I get a ring straight away do you know?
Technically, yes it.
Should you pierce with a hoop, no.
Since it turns and is bigger you risk trauma with it turning, getting bumped more, getting pulled, etc all of which pull debris in, cause tearing, swelling, potential infection, and delay healing.

If a piercer will pierce with a hoop just keep the above in mind @paisley256

I was told that the initial piercing is always a stud, not a ring. I swapped the stud for a ring as soon as possible and mine is made of steel rather than silver. I’m slightly allergic to nickel so didn’t want to take a chance (though I can wear silver earrings). I must admit, I wandered into a tattooist and piercing place as it was the first one I happened upon at the time! It was fine, but looking back I maybe should have checked them out first. They were lovely! 🙂. But compared to the research I I did on the place where I got my tattoo....

Nickel is banned from being used in jewellery in the UK and EU so anything from a mainstream retailer should be fine. Silver is not a great choice of metal for piercings anyway especially those that go through areas like the mucus membranes in the nose. It's too reactive.

Goodness only knows though what's in the cheap metal jewellery imports you see on market stalls and on Etsy etc. I've seen some of the analyses done by labs on them and the content of the alloys can be frightening.

@Mol1628 I think you're right in that I could've been rushing the process in trying to get to a ring. Also yes to letting it do its thing without faffing with it, this is where I think I went wrong. Your advice makes much sense, thanks.
@Kanaloa yes I think I could've been rushing the process and when I think it's healed, hang on a few weeks more, again, this makes much sense thanks.
@EcafTnuc I did once get a ring straight away and that's when my toddled nutted me accidentally in the nose which but the healing process back.
Thank you to you all. I'm going thru cancer treatment at the moment (not chemo) which means regular ct scans where they want all jewellery removed. I think this extra faffing of removing might interupt the healing so prehaps I'll wait, altho it would only mean taking it out for an hour for each scan. Aahh I might just go for it, I've learned alot from this thread and feel more confident especially as my toddler are teens now :)
Thank you everyone.

Mol1628 · 26/05/2022 10:13

Oh if you are going to have to be removing it at all especially in the first 6 months I would wait. Taking it out before it’s healed is a almost definite way of getting a bump. Because of the way the mucous membranes are as well a new nose piercing can close up within 30 minutes as well.

Get yourself through your treatment then get the piercing as a reward? Get the most shockingly expensive beautiful end for it you’ll deserve it 🤣

100% agree with this.

You are guaranteed trouble with it if you keep taking it in and out and they do close up very fast indeed when fresh.

paisley256 · 26/05/2022 14:32

@Mol1628 @LadyPoison
So after your advice I'm going to wait until I've got a period of no tests, so I can concentrate on the healing process - and yes I'll treat myself and get my tragus done too 😀thank you for sharing all your expertise, I really appreciate it.

LadyPoison · 26/05/2022 17:38

Good luck! When you go for it let us know how it goes!

Memyselfandfood · 26/05/2022 17:41

I have loads of piercings, much quicker heal time with a bar than a hoop.
if you do get a keloid you can get bioflex or ptfe piercings and it heals them up.
i had one in my tongue and nose, quickly went away after using these for a while.

Nouveaunew · 27/05/2022 00:16

Best of luck @paisley256 💐
