Zara charging for returns

Zara have started charging for returns. What do people think? Better for the environment as might discourage ordering on a whim? Or cost cutting - making the customer pay for a service that should be free? Zara are closing stores so the fact they are saying that returns to store are free is a bit of an irrelevance when for most people the stores are miles away!

I wonder if other places will follow Zara’s lead?

I won’t order from anywhere that charge for returns. When i can fit into clothes from an 8-16 then i do order a mix of sizes to see what fits best!

Memyselfandfood · 16/05/2022 07:51

If shops sorted their sizes out people wouldn’t need to do it..

I think that, if any of these stores were genuinely concerned, they would sort out there sizing so that you didn’t have to order 3 of everything. And yes, I think others will follow.

This! I don’t order on a whim I order 3 sizes of the same item because I can be anything from a size 10 to a size 14 in high street stores and within the same store.

Recently in one shop I bought the same tshirt as one I already owned in a different colour. I ordered the same size as I ordered previously, but the same tshirt was now waaaay too big.

I think making the customer pay because their clothing is poorly sized feels really unfair.

Can't believe people are so up in arms. The clothes cost the same in the shop. Go to the shop if you can't afford to return it. Businesses are fucked right now and need all the help they can get .

@mnnewbie111 I hate to break it to you, but disabled people exist.

Innocenta · 16/05/2022 08:43

This is so incredibly crap for disabled / severely chronically ill people. I shop 100% online as I just can't go to shops in person (infection risk, inaccessibility, chronic pain, etc). I don't buy 'hauls' and am fairly good at figuring out what will fit (well over 50% success rate, probably reaches 80%), so I'm not returning a lot of my purchases...but of course no one is able to get the correct fit or size every single time.

I'm so disappointed that brands are going in this direction.

mnnewbie111 · 16/05/2022 08:53

@Innocenta yeah. Not everyone on this thread is disabled. Ridiculous comment trying to shame. Always one

Love to see the ablists coming out.

@mnnewbie111 You are the one who made the ridiculous 'go to the shop' comment. Not everyone can. Obviously there are plenty of people who aren't disabled, and many who like to shop in person (though others on the thread have pointed out that shops often don't stock extended sizes, or only a limited range of styles, so it's hardly a panacea). But the fact is, you said something thoughtless and insensitive. You just don't like the fact that I rightly called you on it.

Give what you're posting a moment's thought next time.

Ok babes I will do. You really told me. I'm so sorry. Hanging head in shame right now

I think there is a difference between a compulsory charge to send an order back with a courier of their choice, and leaving the cost of returns up to the customer.

The second one is fine imo, and I don’t mind paying to send it back with a courier of my choice at my own cost. The cost of “free returns” is included in the original price for those who have it anyway.

When returning an order it is also possible to claim back the cost of original shipping (see here: www.which.co.uk/consumer-rights/regulation/distance-selling-regulations-aAijb9Q8UT3V#the-consumer-contracts-regulations).

imo what Uniqlo have tried to do is illegal, I suspect there is a way to avoid paying based on the Consumer Contracts Regulations.
