To ask if you always style your hair?

My hair is very frizzy and difficult to manage. I also have a lot of it and is fairly wavy.
I am lazy and don’t often bother using my hair straightner after washing it, which means I let it be and looks a bit wild and, frankly, scruffy.
it’s just something I notice when I look at myself at work, when I dry my hair and check the mirror at home I often feel as I have obtained a “decent” beach look 🤣 but I now realise I can no longer pull that off. I was just curious to know if you always have your hair on point? What do you do to keep it in order?

I wash my hair every morning and straighten it or its a greasey wavy mess

Ruralbliss · 12/05/2022 21:45

My hair would be a frizzy mess if I hadn't discovered the perfect curly hair product and didn't wash it every day. I have it cut really well every 6-8 weeks.

godmum56 · 12/05/2022 21:45

wash it, let it airdry a bit, brush it into shape (med long with a fringe) leave it to dry. When I was working I had a short cut, use to shower, part air dry, brush into shape, drive to work with the ac or heater on depending on the season and take a minute on arrival at work to finger style it using the sun visor mirror...bnever looked en pointe but what the heck.

SliceOfCakeCupOfTea · 12/05/2022 21:54

My hair is naturally straight so I usually don't bother styling it. Just a quick blast with the hair dryer after the shower and off I go.

If I want it to have any waves or texture I have to spend ages working on it.

Marghe87 · 12/05/2022 22:41

@Ruralbliss oh wow that’s a lot! i cut it twice a year😅 are you in London? Around where I live a cut and blowdry is around £60, couldn’t afford that every 6 weeks.

Forgot to say no blow dry just a wet cut with a hairdresser who knows my hair and how to cut curly hair. It's probably more like 8 weeks. I pay £30

Palavah · 12/05/2022 22:47

I only brush mine before i wash it.
Wavy/curly hair looks amazing without blow drying but you have to look after it.

Check out curly hair /wavy hair on instagram

Pugfostermum · 12/05/2022 22:47

I comb it once every 4-5 days when I’ve washed it. Occasionally I wash it and forget to comb it.
I used to obsessively dry it with a round brush and try to get both sides the exact same……. Then I got a dog and I became much scruffier! 😂

StickFlowers · 12/05/2022 22:51

Goodness, no. Roots, cut and blow-dry every 7 weeks, ponytail or hair down, just brushed, no products other than S&C. I do look 100X better when my hairstylist straightens my hair, I have a natural fluffiness, which looks a bit ridiculous.

GalactatingGoddess · 12/05/2022 22:54

What do you mean by style? As in wash or an actual hair style?

I have 3b/3c curly mixed ethnicity hair.
Wash it twice/three times a week and leave it down on those days and sometimes the day after if it looks nicely formed still,

If not I will style it in a high hun, in a giant claw clip or in space buns.

I can only comb it when it's wet with conditioner unless I'm going for the full 80s disco diva look fully combed out style - which I'm not most days.

TunaSalad · 12/05/2022 23:04

I wash and dry it and straighten or curl it once a week, I will get two days out of that, then wear it up and then wash it an plait it to dry naturally and have waves for a day and then hair up.

I wish I had the time to always look styled but more often than not it a bun or a braid.

Would love to know which is “the perfect curly hair product” please!

Myshitisreal · 13/05/2022 00:08

Mine is waist length and wavy. I wash every week to 10 days. I use curly girl friendly products but i keep it in a French plait when not working. I take it down and spray with water scrunching a little gel in. Once finished, I spray to wet, brush then French plait until work again and so it repeats. I can get away with two weeks if you don't look closely 😂. I only brush it wet. I put in aveda be curly after washing then gradually add product when it's down. My hair is very porous and sucks product up. I don't get a cast, I don't like to use that much product because I'd need to wash it much more often

MrOllivander · 13/05/2022 00:17

Mine is wavy. I wash it, then apply gel and foam and diffuse
Doesn't always turn out the way I want Grin so I wear it up if it doesn't. Have it cut twice a year

Veja · 13/05/2022 00:22

I have frizzy wavy hair. It takes ages to blow dry properly to get rid of all the frizz and I simply don’t have the time or energy to do it after every wash. Even if I do have the time to blow dry and style it carefully (would take roughly an hour or longer) it never looks as sleek as when I come out the hair salon.

Hence, instead I do a quick rough blow dry (i.e., no sectioning) with cool air to prevent further frizz/damage and wear my hair in a bun. 🤷‍♀️

if I have a special occasion and want my hair to look decent, I’ll either go to a salon for a blow dry or just use straighteners.

I sometimes feel conscious my hair makes me seem slightly unkempt at work but I can’t help my natural texture.

saggyhairyass · 13/05/2022 01:58

I'm very lazy. My hair is greying, thick, and course and sticks out to one side so I tend to leave it chin to shoulder length. I put in some heat protection spray then blow dry. If my hair is aiming for the frizzy wave I might put some straighteners through it to calm it down a bit.

maturestudent74 · 13/05/2022 07:38

Mine is like yours. It is shoulder length and goes frizzy/curly. I just dry it straight away and tie it back! Had loads of layers chopped in which really helps as it looks more Curley than frizzy now. . If I am going out then I style it properly but for work then it works!

Furrbabymama87 · 13/05/2022 07:44

Wash and blow dry every morning. It doesn't take me long though, I've got fine hair and it's above shoulder length at the moment. Otherwise it just looks plastered to my head.

MyNameIsAngelicaSchuyler · 13/05/2022 07:48

I have to do something after washing but then it holds a good few days. Either blow dry straight then add ‘beach Wave’ with straighteners, or if I want to wear it curly I use products (leave in, curl cream, gel) before using a denman brush to distribute / style and leave to dry before ‘scrunch out the crunch’ (or more accurately sleep out the crunch as that seems to work better for me and means the curls last longer).

sounds like you have a lot of texture in your hair, find some curly hair Instagram accounts to teach you how to manage it .

I get 5-6 days out of mine whichever way I style it so over a week is not that much time although wash day is a bit labour intensive.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 13/05/2022 07:51

Mine is the same.

Parlux hair dryer which is the number 1 thing which helps.

L'Oreal hair oil after shampooing.

Blast it to rough dry it then use a brush to go over it or the Revlon One Step which is amazing.

Takes about 10 mins as opposed to 25+ without a good hair drier. Whenever I stay somewhere with a normal hair drier I'm reminded how long my hair takes to do.

ByGrabtharsHammarWhatASaving · 13/05/2022 08:06

Mine is very curly and turns into a frizzy mess without styling. I have a dry cut every 8 weeks which costs about £40, wash it about twice a week and use a curling mousse then either air dry or dry with a diffuser. In between washes if the curls have gone flat I use a bit of water to dampen it and use either a bit of styling spray or cream to revive the curl. I use Umberto Giannini products which are about £8 a bottle. So it's not exactly cheap maintenance but I'm quite vain about my hair and don't do any other beauty things so can justify the cost.

Goldengoosey · 13/05/2022 08:09

I used to wash my hair every day. Since wfh I maybe once a week (like today) can’t be bothered and just blow dry a bit of living day dry shampoo into it. So 5/6 days out of the week I wash, condition and blow dry and either run over it quickly with straighteners or kind of scrunch a bit of product in it if I’m leaving it wavy.

I use a treatment on it weekly. Get my roots done and trimmed every 5/6 weeks. My hair is naturally wavy but I mostly wear it straight and it’s a bit past my shoulders.

I’ve always been fusspot about my hair and like it swishy so not washing it one day and using dry shampoo is a big thing for me! 😀

MyNameIsAngelicaSchuyler · 13/05/2022 08:10

You guys have good value curly hair cuts. The one nearest to me is Nuala morey, I went once but felt sick at the cost so just went back to my normal place and asked her for a similar cut (blunt layers, slightly inverted) that I can style straight or curly

crappens · 13/05/2022 08:14

I have naturally thick, relatively dry hair with a wave to it. I wash, dry and straighten my hair twice a week and use a hairspray with quite strong hold immediately afterwards. I find that it stays relatively straight in between washes, although a slight wave creeps in. My tips are sleeping on silk pillowcase (much less bed hair!) and not brushing between washes. I run my fingers through it and use a little extra hair spray if necessary between washes.

AllThingsServeTheBeam · 13/05/2022 08:15

I have waist length hair. Haven't been to a hairdressers for years. It gets washed twice a week. And the extent of styling is a brush once or possibly twice a day!
