Oversized shirts on apples: flattering or not

I am a relatively slim ish apple- size 10- but with a large tum. I bought a couple of oversized shirts from Zara and they seem to make my tummy look larger. I think a fitted shirt would look better but everything is oversize these days. I suppose I could wear them open with a tee underneath?

I'm also a slim apple, and feel like I'm already a bit top-heavy, so oversized shirts just emphasize it.

I am sending it back. I actually think billowing fabric in the mid section only suits women with flat tummies.

I'm an apple shape - also much larger than you OP & I'm embracing the oversized shirts. I actually feel less self-conscious about my huge stomach when wearing them.

Sarah Lancashire used to wear loose shirts (Last Tango in Halifax) but in soft fabrics and then put a shorter jacket with a nipped in waist over it which gave her some shape. I always thought it was a good look!

I personally think flowing/ oversized shirts look great on apples, especially if rolled up to the elbows, showing your slim legs and forearms. My waist is my smallest bit, with a big bum, bust, and thighs- I'd love to wear a flowing silk shirt but it just gives no definition anywhere

For me they only work if I wear them open as over shirts. I recently bought a black denim style, and a fleece checked over sized shirt. I'm 5ft1 which adds another level of confusion with this trend.

Hmmm... I am also small busted. If I had to describe my shape it would be like a python who has just swallowed a large deer:) My tummy is large but all the other bits are small thanks to peri-menopause.

Sarah Lancashire looks good though but I am much smaller busted than her.

Have you tried tucking in just the ends at the front only and then pulling the spare fabric down over your waist? That can work because you get the tummy coverage without the galleon in full sail effect.

I have menopause tummy. I use the fitted jacket over slightly looser top. So the bottom and top same colour, jacket a different one. It creates the slimmer line down the middle.

I am not an apple but have a large bust. So it just hangs off my busy and makes me look massive. So no.

PangolinPie · 13/05/2022 09:40

Someone posted a good video on the other thread about how to dress apples and it included the tip of the semi-tuck for apples, as well as rolled up sleeves. It made a massive difference. That may have not been specifically for over sized shirts but just loose tops in general but it's the same principle.

I have these shirts and just tie them up at the front. Sort of like this.

Thanks for all the tips. That is a great video!
