Skincare for spot prone pre teen

That exactly! DD age 10 has started getting the occasional spot. I’ve got micellar water and cotton wool pads and she’ll use these now morning and evening which I think has worked!

do your pre-teens have a skincare routine? What is it?

DD uses Cerave SA to wash face twice daily

DD only uses Micellar water to remove make up

MrOllivander · 12/05/2022 13:31

You need to wash the micellar water off
It's great for shifting makeup but it's like washing with soapy water and leaving it on!

Oh right!!

Clean and clear deep action cream wash. My sons got quite sensitive skin and gets occasional spot this seems to help. Also t zone spot zapping gel both under a fiver if your on a budget.

Greenfrog78 · 12/05/2022 13:43

He doesnt use moisturiser at the moment. I feel it might clog his skin.

RedMake88 · 12/05/2022 14:58

Can I ask their ages? Your children? Thanks

Son just turned 12 but started puberty early

Londondays43 · 16/05/2022 10:41

My son hit puberty early too, what I found helpful was him using a gentle cleanser twice a day, it helped regulate his skin, get rid of sweat and excess oil. He also hit puberty early 11/12. @Greenfrog78 I found my son could use moisturiser but it needed to be light and there is no point in using a moisturiser that didn't have SPF. He used La Roche Posay for a while, however I have just tried my son and daughter on a new brand which they are enjoying. It's called Bare Addiction (www.bareaddiction.com) they have trial kits which my children loved, and as a parent they were reasonably priced and if they didn't like it it wasn't too much waste (I hate throwing out full size products they don't like!). Let me know what works for your kids, my daughter is struggling to balance her makeup remover and cleanser.

Ditch the Micellar.
La Roche Posay Effaclar range is the best for teenage hormonal skin. Nip&Fab teen skin fix is also good, and contains the exact same % of salicylic as Paula's choice.
Oily skin also needs hydration- it's a misconception that it doesn't. If skin is dry or (especially) dehydrated, it produces more oil to try and compensate and there's your vicious circle.

Is it ok to use saciliyac constraining products on such young skin?

Yes

Vursayles · 19/05/2022 10:44

Second the LRP Effaclar range. The light moisturiser is great.

RedMake88 · 19/05/2022 18:19

would You need to use daily sun cream?

Nametoname · 19/05/2022 18:23

A word of caution re the LRP Effaclar range … mine used it and both had really dry skin within a week. To be fair, they used the wash and toner but no moisturiser. Lesson learned. They now use it a couple of times a week or if they have an outbreak rather than daily. Otherwise they use Cerave Moisturising wash with a Simple moisturiser.

Yes, but everyone should anyway.

Salicylic will dry skin out and get rid of excess oil, that's its job. It's been around for years- iirc Clinique 3 step toner is a salicylic toner and the famous "astringents" of our youth (Clearasil etc) contain salicylic. It works by pentrating deeper into the pores and getting the gunk out (technical explanation- not!)

Vichy Normaderm micellar water and LRP Effaclar AI targeted spot cream on any spots.
