Spray tan, sun bed or fake tanning lotion for a wedding?

Not my wedding, I hasten to add. I’m very very pale and would like to look a bit glam for the wedding. Which would look most natural? Least hassle?

None of these. They all look awful. Just use those body lotions that contain a small amount of tanning pigment. Used over a month or do, you'll achieve the natural glow you want.

I have had spray tans - some good, some bad. If it's for a special event I'd have a 'test' one done.

The lotions take so long to build up though, and I don't have the patience.

Use a gradual tanning moisturiser- I use a garnier one - looks very natural

nearlyspringyay · 11/05/2022 16:51

Gradual tan.

Daisypod · 11/05/2022 17:09

I've had spray tans done that were amazing, you have to get someone good though so maybe get recommendations.

Tinkletwat · 11/05/2022 17:11

Spray tan but a few days prior if you want a decent bit of tan. Gradual tan if you just want a little bit of colour and sunbed if you fancy a bit of melanoma.

PizzaPatel · 11/05/2022 17:14

Gradual tans look streaky on me. I’d go spray tan

Marjoriesdoor · 11/05/2022 17:33

Never, ever, ever a sunbed.

theshadeofgreen · 11/05/2022 18:23

The dove mousse is gradual but I've found it faster than lotions. I'm also very pale but use the medium/dark and see results after one use.

It's a pain to scrub off when it starts to fade though but if it's for one day it's not a problem

That probably means you are using tanning body lotion that's too dark for your skin tone, or you are applying it unevenly. A helpful SO or mate can be useful for back application 🤗

Thanks everyone. I’m scared of looking streaky or orange or both. I’ll Have to use the forthcoming weeks to experiment. Is a spray tan expensive?

I think I pay £22 for a spray tan, midlands x

Shadow1986 · 11/05/2022 23:26

Big No for the sunbeds. And this comes from a regular user of them many years ago. Severely regretting now. Have various skin lesions caused by uv rays and just today had checks for melanoma etc…so not worth it!!
i like the garnier gradual tan too.

stevalnamechanger · 12/05/2022 00:27

Never use a sun bed

hoorayandupsherises · 12/05/2022 11:13

I am, and I quote, "deathly" pale and I find Sally Hansen Airbrush Legs (and I have another brand too from Superdrug but I can't remember the name right now) the best for events, easy to apply, pretty much foolproof and close enough to my usually skin to look natural.

All the gradual tans end up peeling off me when it's hot (the skin on my lower legs seems to be tan resistant, whether natural or otherwise!), so definitely test beforehand!

SmugOldBag · 12/05/2022 11:34

Spray tan every time. Try one well beforehand though so you get the colour right then go for your actual one about two days before the wedding to to avoid rub off and to allow it to 'settle'.

When done well spray tans are natural and beautifully even. Sun beds are abominable. Gradual tans take an age, make you smell horrible day in and day out and always look streaky.

For a spray tan you need to shave legs a few days before so no open pore settlement and exfoliate like a mad bastard the day before. After that it will last a week maybe two with good maintenance.

When I lived in Bondi I had a spray tan every week! £10 equivalent. Everyone did as you can't sunbathe in the height of summer in Sydney!

tellmewhentheLangshiplandscoz · 12/05/2022 13:37

I've always wanted to have that exfoliate/tan treatment Clarins Spas do, I think that would be lovely before an event

Fivemoreminutes1 · 12/05/2022 13:53

I had a dabble with tanning lotion a very long time ago and I couldn’t apply it evenly and after a few days I ended up with concentrated patches of orangey-brown under and around my armpits and in the fold of my elbow.

gradual tans often end up looking streaky as people don’t apply enough

id go with good old st tropez tanning mousse, done by a salon or someone else it will look great
