Advice for a second earlobe piercing newbie

I am the most boring person I know - and in my mid-40s - but for some inexplicable reason I have become determined to get a second ear piercing in each ear.

It's probably the most rebellious thing I will have ever done in my entire life 😐.

For anyone who has 2 or more piercings, could you please help me with any advice or do's and don'ts? I do have a standard ear piercing that I got over 30 years ago - although even then I was the oldest girl I knew to get my ears pierced - but it was done with a gun and I remember having lots of trouble with one ear not healing for ages.

So what I've read is that guns are bad and I should go to a tattoo place that uses a needle - but as someone with no tattoos and no one in my circle who's done this - how would I know a reputable one? if it's been in a business a long time and looks clean is that good enough?

And will they pick the 'spot' on my ear lobe or should I decide where it goes? And would I need to bring my own earrings?

Please and thank you 😳.

Thank you all again for your advice - I read it all and it really helped. I've done it woohoo. I'm happy (I think) but the studs are tiny so it's kind of hard to imagine the full effect yet.

I only checked out 2 places - the first put me off as the proprietor was having a break outside the door - he was nice but I didn't even get to see inside and it had no customers.

The second was more like a shop I guess. It had a reception and 3 other customers so I felt more comfortable. I'm sure the lady thought I was daft cos she had to check twice why I was asking what's involved 😳 but she explained it v well and said she could do it in 10 mins.

So she was v nice, wore gloves, showed me that the needle was wrapped and individual use only and then marked the spots and asked me to check was I happy (I was). Btw I know you all know this that gave me advice 😜 it's just in case newbie's like me are reading.

Then she did it - I couldn't believe how fast it is - I thought it would be slow but it's like a very quick jab. Not even 1 second I'd say and virtually no pain or soreness. The little earrings have a flat back and the front screws on, so that they won't get caught on anything.

I got care instructions to wash them twice a day (I've bought the solution) and she did tell me to leave them alone. I've to keep the earrings in for 3 months 😯 but I don't mind if it means they heal right.

I will post pics but be warned I have the complete opposite of dainty, pretty ears. I know this from all my research 😂.

Ooh they look great have you got a different colour in each side or is that just the light?

Looks like you have space left for some nice cartilage piercings too if you catch the addictive bug!

They look great!
My lobes are very similar to yours, I have 2 in one and 1 in the other but am now contemplating more!

They look great - looking at your ear I think a rook would look great if you were going to add another piercing

Ah well done OP, they look great!

Also I've just spotted your username and it's made me feel all nostalgic and squidgey. I still remember the phone number - 00353 4636677

Don’t assume that a needle piercing will necessarily heal better. My dd had needle piercing for her ear lobes, nearly a year later they are still sore.

I think some people just don’t react well to piercing. Healing is more about luck than the method used.

@MrsPelligrinoPetrichor I forgot to ask you about yours - you were very brave 😱 were they ok since? Even with the ice I don't think I'd have the guts to actually stick the needle in 😳.

@Mol1628 I did wonder that myself but it's the light - I had a good nosy today and they're both tiny white diamond-y looking. But the metal is quite dark.

@GenialHarryGr0ut I had to Google a rook 😂 but this has been so scary I'm not sure I'd have the guts for that it looks v ouch-y although very cool 😎.

Thank you all for being lovely - really happy today as I've put my normal earrings and I really like how they look. One of them bled a bit in bed but I've given them a good clean again this morning. I'm just amazed and glad that I've had no pain or soreness at all so far 🤞.

Yep, absolutely fine ,no issues at all. Once you get going it just pops and is fine, not many nerves there just gristle. The ones I had professionally done I ended up with infections. Go figure 😂

My rook I found easier to heal than my second and third lobes. I think because it’s tucked out of the way and doesn’t get caught on hair/clothes etc. Its not as scary as it looks.

I think a daith would look great on you as well. That’s what I want next but I wear earbuds a lot so that’s what puts me off.
