Could we have a thread for really good wardrobe staples?

So I’m trying to revamp my wardrobe and the advice I keep reading is to invest in good, plain basics like the perfect navy blazer. I think this does make sense as I tend to be a magpie with clothes and although I don’t have a completely mismatched wardrobe, I think it could work a lot harder. I think a lot of us focus too much on occasion or special or distinctive pieces which don’t necessarily form the foundation of a hard working wardrobe. I think we often baulk at spending lots on more boring items when actually they can draw things together or help with layering and don’t go out of fashion. I’d like to spend a bit more on these items.

So what are your tips for finding those key wardrobe puzzle pieces? What are they and where do you get them?

Good idea. I’m trying to get back to a more joined-up, capsule wardrobe.

I just bought this, which I am very pleased with:

I buy a ton of linen T-shirts and vest tops from H & M. I have bought from other more expensive places but keep coming back to these. I wear them to death! The seams line up well too which hasn’t been the case when I’ve bought from elsewhere and they go all misshapen.
I really rate their jeans too.

I've recently bought this www.marksandspencer.com/cotton-rich-double-breasted-trench-coat/p/clp60528140?color=SAND&prevPage=srp in an attempt to have a more refined and tidy spring wardrobe!
