Laser eye surgery

Not sure if this is the right section... But has anyone had laser eye surgery? How much was it? Worth it? Recommendations?

Every summer, the prescription sunglasses debacle makes me think about it more and more...

I would recommend had lasik in 2008, best money I have ever spent, I can remember exactly what I paid, I had my surgery at Optimax, cost was around £3,200 I think. I had the wavefront option, so slightly more customed, been excellent, no problems with haloing, or dry eyes. I am 50 now and don’t yet need reading glasses. Book in for a consultation and they will tell you, if you are suitable, the best come they could achieve and the cost. Good luck.

I did this about 2007. Had lasik and have never looked back. For a few minutes of discomfort it was like a miracle getting up from the chair afterwards.
I used to struggle with contact lenses, different solutions, specs, prescription sunnies etc, but the decider for me was going snorkelling in the Maldives. I would have needed prescription goggles too.
Now I just need sunglasses.
I swim a lot, and can actually see what’s around me.
I had it done at Ultralase, but I don’t think they exist any more.it was £3000 and I would have spent that many times over in specs and lenses.
I still have perfect eyesight.

Mmmm barbecue 😋 Apart from that, I think I had a referral voucher for Optical express for £250 used that (and then had someone else use one of my vouchers which meant I got a cheque as well) Lasek with wavefront. It was life changing. However once I hit 45 I started getting massive headaches from bright lights, and a bit of glare when driving at night so needed blank prescription glasses with a tint/filter. Now I'm knocking 50 and I think I might be on the verge of reading glasses. But it won't be varifocals and I won't be constantly wearing the wrong glasses!

I did it 16 years ago. Best thing i ever did. Had mine done by ultralase, they went bust a few years after though. I think it's a different company now.
When I think I was spending about £250-300 a year on glasses, the cost of £3500 doesn't seem so bad, I've got my moneys worth by now!

I had mine done over 20 years ago at the age of 27. I was -2.5 in both eyes. About 5 years ago I had to start wearing glasses and my prescription is now -1.5 in both eyes. I don't need reading glasses.

I had mine done about 15 years ago and have never regretted it. I’m 53 now and have needed reading glasses for about five years but love not needing glasses for watching TV, driving etc.

I would advise caution. For every person who thought it was great there's another who found the opposite, where it didn't improve their eyesight much, and/or it left them unable to even wear contact lenses when their eyesight continued to deteriorate, as eyesight does. I researched (slightly short sighted) and decided against it.

I think I made the right decision. Every advertisement I've seen on social media is filled with mixed responses.

i had mine done 12 years ago, just had my yearly eye test this morning and still perfect vision apart from reading glasses which I’ve needed for last couple of years, I’m early fifties, would I have it done again, absolutely. I wasn’t put off by having to need reading glasses sooner, I actually missed my glasses initially, but it’s so much better when you don’t need glasses/contacts all the time. Actually I was coming to the end of being able to wear contacts, had been wearing since early 20’s and my optician recommended minimal use so that was the deal breaker for me to go ahead with laser.

DownTownAbbey2 · 07/05/2022 15:57

Reading all the responses has made me think back to when I needed glasses or contact lenses and what a pain it was. Honestly I’ve found it life changing.

karmakameleon · 07/05/2022 17:26

I’d advise caution too. I had mine done 15 years ago and still have perfect vision in one eye but the other started deteriorating 3-4 years ago. Still don’t need glasses as my hood eye compensates but I’m not sure how long that will be for.

I also suffered from the side effect of dry eyes. Not the end of the world but this does make your eyes water (and your make up run) so a pain.

im not sure I’d do it again if I’m honest.

Vsirbdo · 07/05/2022 17:28

I had it done last year, was about 4k and the best thing I’ve ever done. I hates wearing glasses with a passion and never got on with contacts. I’m in my 30s and I worked out that the cost of glasses over my life time was not dissimilar to the amount I paid

Eyewanttobreafree · 07/05/2022 18:17

Thanks so much for sharing your experiences, good and bad... Will weigh it up. I've found a great and reasonable glasses shop so need to consider!
