Can someone please help me find a swimsuit that I won't be too scared to wear?

Something like those old-fashioned ones with a bit of a mini skirt on it would be ideal. I want to take DS swimming and keep putting it off. Under £20 would be ideal. Thanks.

the best one I have had is a proper speedo one with lined cups. It doesn't have the skirt. It is just plain navy and seems to hold me in a bit and is more flattering than the "fashion" ones I have had before.

themoon66 · 10/01/2008 23:20

Not sure if I can find one to link to, but I have a friend who always wears that skirted style and gets them from the Co-op. Sometimes she buys plain costume from BHS and buys little lycra skirt from a big dept store near Grantham called Downtown... but obviously I don't know where you live.

Scramble · 10/01/2008 23:22

Is this too much might be better than the ones with the skirt coming from the wasit though.

Scramble · 10/01/2008 23:23

Another style

Previous one availible is various fabrics.

MamaG · 10/01/2008 23:24

IMO you'd be best with an all in one which will hold you in and support yournorks

don't have al ittle skirt one, you'll look weird

Scramble · 10/01/2008 23:27

Some on here too

Magdelanian · 10/01/2008 23:28

My thoughts too, Dont go with the skirt, get the wax strips out an keep your legs together, we've all been there, but a good speedo to keep the wombly bit in tact. The you are swimming away looking beautiful.

Twinklemegan · 10/01/2008 23:29

MamaG - I just hate my legs so much. But I guess I could have a sarong, or even a towel, round me and take it off just before I enter the pool.

I'll look at the links, thanks.

yes twinkle, that would be much better. When you're in teh pool, the faffy skirt will float around your waist anyway, you'd look like you were trying to be aged 4 if you wore a skirt one

Loads of people at my pool wear a sarong or wrap a towel around themselves

One person even has a hooded dressing gown! (but he is 3 and my DS so I'll forgive him )

S1ur · 10/01/2008 23:32

Debenhams used to do a nice black one with tankini top and shorts, so no need to wax. Cheap too. don't know if they still do it was a couple of seasons ago.

Twinklemegan · 10/01/2008 23:33

Oh, I do agree about the ones with a full skirt. That's not really my thing.

Thanks Scramble but they're a bit big as I'm a size 10 (but I still hate revealing my milky white legs and big knees, or the top half of me for that matter). Plus the stretchmarks after DS - but like Magdelanian said we've all been there.

Sorry, I didn't realise you'd posted the 3rd link as well Scramble. There are loads on there to wade through - thanks. WRT skirty thing, was thinking more of those that kind of hug round your hips IYKWIM.

Sorry, but these are just bizarre:

Twinklemegan · 10/01/2008 23:39

ROFL - even I wouldn't go that far. Perhaps we should all find the weirdest swimwear out there - looks like it could be amusing.

lou33 · 10/01/2008 23:40

i think swimsuits are really unflattering, if you are a size 10 you should get a bikini or tankini top and shorts

Twinklemegan · 10/01/2008 23:42

Yes I was thinking of a tankini, but I'd need one with a nice long top, because I hate showing my midriff.

Magdelanian · 10/01/2008 23:42

Take the plunge and dont worry too much about how you look. I'm sure you are beautiful. I can remember going swimming with DD and I'd borrowed a swimsuit. I sat on the edge of the municiple pool and my tit fell out in full view of a guy. He said i'd made his night

Twinklemegan · 10/01/2008 23:43

LOL

I think at size 10 you would only make yourself look huge or a bit strange with a skirted one to be honest. I am size 16/18 with an overhangingbelly from 2 sections and honestly a normal swimsuit is OK. A skirted one won't hide your legs, it would only attract attention.

A sarong type thing could look good.
Plenty people go poolside with towels and remove at the last minute.

What about one of the styles with longer legs I think at size 10 that could look quite funky. Again loads of styles Ok this is £30 but this kind of thing is v. sporty and normal .

Proper swimsuit . The design of these is very flatering and the leg is not too high.

Scramble · 10/01/2008 23:58

Love this one

JJB have it for £11.49 I am tempted myself

Tinker · 11/01/2008 00:01

Any good?

Twinklemegan · 11/01/2008 00:05

Wow, there are a lot of traditional ones on that website at really good prices. I'm thinking I might just get one of the cheapest ones and then if I hate wearing it at least I haven't wasted too much money. It's for DS's sake anyway - I hate swimming and chlorine makes me feel sick. I think it's bad memories of school swimming lessons.

OP posts:
Twinklemegan · 11/01/2008 00:06

Lol @ Tinker.

That Figleaves site I meant, btw.

Yes I really like that Speedo tankini, but a tad too much for my pocket. JJB seems to be out of stock worst luck.

Pleae go for the funkier ones [begging emotion], unless that is you are over 50 and have beards at the top of your thighs .

Twinklemegan · 11/01/2008 00:12

Well yes, I'll try. I'm just not feeling very funky at the moment and I always think I'll look stupid. Methinks I have self esteem ishoos.
