Botox for lip lines

Has anyone had Botox above their top lip to get rid of vertical lip lines? I have very deep lines if I pout or purse my lips though they don’t really show at all otherwise. I had a small amount of lip filler last year to fill in the crease in the actual lip, now it’s the area above that really bothers me.

I’ve read about something called a lip flip which looks interesting but more than anything I’d like to stop the deep lines appearing.

Following this as I’d love to know the answer! How old are you OP?

@Abracadabra12345 early 50s. Plenty of laughter lines and I’ve always loved the sun and that’s taken it’s toll but it’s only the lip lines that really get to me.

A family member does Botox/fillers. Apparently these lines aren't impossible to get rid of but it is quite difficult and the person giving has to be very skillful at what they do.

i find Botox a bit daunting as if it does go wrong you have to live with the consequences until it wears off and your mouth would be very obvious if it went badly.

Do you mean ‘smokers lines’?
if so filler works well.

Okbutnotgreat · 05/05/2022 20:59

@DownTownAbbey2 yes I think they are what you’d call smokers lines but they are deep. When I had filler in my top lip to stop that creasing, the worst lines had some too but it’s just not filled them. The technician was wary of putting too much in as they’re visible literally only when I purse my lips do didn’t want a lumpy finish. I just think if the muscles were prevented from moving in the first place that might be a better solution but I’d like to know from someone who’s had it done.

I have mine filled once a year, I’ve never smoked but all my relatives and myself have them.

I’m not sure Botox would work well there as it would restrict movement. Filler would be better.

Treacletoots · 05/05/2022 22:02

Filler feels the better option. I've seen a few videos of the lip flip where they couldn't eat or drink properly....

AuntieJoyce · 05/05/2022 22:14

I have
what do you want to know

Minoloso · 05/05/2022 23:12

I have, it did soften the lines but not erase them - the downside was that I couldn’t drink from a straw and some movements were slightly different. I had lip fillers & it got rid of them.

Okbutnotgreat · 06/05/2022 06:43

@AuntieJoyce do you think it worked better than fillers and is it something you’d recommend? Fillers improved my lip lines in that my actual lip outline is fine now and doesn’t crinkle up but the are above still gets deep creases if I purse my lips. I’m quite an expressive talker and I feel it makes me look older and feel self conscious. I actually got filler as soon as we were allowed to not wear face masks in public just because suddenly I felt very exposed with my crinkly mouth on show. It’s much improved but I’m curious if it could be better.

@AuntieJoyce and reading others posts, does it affect movement particularly for eating, drinking and of course talking?

@Okbutnotgreat it works differently to the fillers as you would expect so preventative rather than disguising lines already there. I’ve had it for two years and the lines I was developing have gone away again.

As PP says it has a subtle effect on your mouth movements so yes trouble sucking a straw or sipping tea when it is first done but these largely correct as other muscles compensate after a few weeks. Smile does look a bit different, less natural.

I just have four jabs now, two on top two on the bottom for maintenance rather than a strong effect, to minimise the difference

The joy of Botox is that it is temporary so it’s something you could try and then if you don’t like the look it’s gone in three months and you never do it again
