Back to work after eighteen years - help me dress!

As the title says, really.

Hopefully starting a role soon as a clinical coder at my local hospital. Very much a behind the scenes admin role, and I have no idea what to wear!

Last office job was in a very old fashioned, quite formal environment and I think what was normal there might be overdoing it a bit in this role.

Still in conversation about hours and working patterns so not everything finalised yet, and there hasn't been any conversation about dress codes but I'd be interested to hear from anyone working in this sort of role as to what they wear.

Thanks!

You don't need anything very formal. NHS dress codes were always relatively relaxed, and more so since Covid. Not jeans or trainers (might be OK in some departments, but test the waters first). Skirt with a smartish T shirt, or trousers with a shirt or nice top are absolutely fine though. Flats. Cardigan in reasonable nick.

I'd just buy a couple of things until you have gauged how everyone else dresses. Good luck 😀

Thanks. Having a massive wobble about the whole thing today but will bear this in mind.

I work in a similar role for the nhs. As pp has says, smart trousers and a T-shirt, skirts with top and blouses. Also do dresses with tights.

I find M&S do some great stuff, buy a couple of things and see what everyone else is wearing when you start Smile
