Bikini waxes… what do they wax?!

Does a bikini wax wax your… undercarriage at all?

Basically I like to read my book on a sun lounger with my legs bent (if you know what I mean) and I don’t want “tufts” poking out the sides of my costume for passer bys to have the misfortune of witnessing!

there isn’t much to remove but does a basic bikini wax do any of the undercarriage or just the upper bit? Would I be better off going with an extended bikini wax or even a Brazilian? Thanks

For mine you often lie with your feet in a butterfly position, then knees into chest when they do your bum. No knickers. It is embarrassing at first but my wax places does hundreds a day so I doubt they are embarrassed

I always wear the knickers. They aren't exactly paper, kind of crepe type perhaps. It may be a bit silly but I'd hate to be completely exposed, even tho they are basically seeing everything.

But.... it really is bad. What would I need to do to prepare? Trim?

It's really not bad.

But if you've never done it before, it might feel a bit odd & as you'll have quite a lot of hair, be a bit sore.

I would trim, yes, and I'd start with maybe a standard bikini wax, and progress depending on what suits you.

When the hair is long, it can be quite sore

Oh Jesus yes. Salon for sure.

I couldn't imagine trying to do it myself. You'd need to be very, we, supple & it's hard to pull off the wax / strips yourself.

I do it myself at home, with strips, undercarriage as well!!!
Have been doing it for years now, got it down to a fine art, but it did take a bit of practice.
Admittedly I do have to take a deep breath before I pull it off my more sensitive areas, it's like a very sticky plaster.

@Allthegoodusernamesareused - I am a similar age to you and been "all off "since my mid to late teens. We should all avoid expressions like being called "tarty", it is our body, let's go for "arty". It is certainly not shameful and you will find it less sweaty and more comfortable particularly in the warm weather. For the record, it is also nothing new and regularly took place in Ancient Roman and Ancient Greece bathhouses.

it is best to talk to the salon you are booked with directly for any prep they would like you to do for the first time, different beauticians work slightly differently, they are used to these things so there is no need to be backward in coming forward. If possible it is best to go for a salon from personal recommendation of others.

Finally as I mentioned up thread, there is a huge difference between using strip wax (less effective by far, and quite painful) and hot wax (smoother finish, lasts longer and little discomfort after the first couple of sessions ('suggest paracetamol the first couple of times) when the body seems to adapt to the process.

Good luck and enjoy afterwards x

Thank you for the advice. And apologies - I meant no disrespect, I don't personally find waxing shameful, I was just raised in an extremely conservative household.

@Allthegoodusernamesareused If you've never removed any hair before, perhaps trying this cream first before waxing? Its called Woo Woo and is specially for the bikini area including the undercarriage. Much much gentler than shaving or waxing an no itchy regrowth either. If your hair is longish, cut it a lot shorter before using the cream as its more effective.
This way you can experiment with what you might like bikini line wise and if its for you you could then talk to a salon about waxing if you wanted to. I think if you just went straight for waxing without having experimented first, you might be put off.

Does a Brazilian take absolutely everything off? I'm just wondering how that works in and around the labia?

No ‘Hollywood’ is all off.

StarlightLady · 04/05/2022 15:10

@Allthegoodusernamesareused - Sorry, I didn't mean to sound harsh (hence the kiss at the end of my post) and fully understand what conservative households can bring to an individual. This can often prevent women becoming who they really want to be, but I digress.

I was fortunate as a teen (early 40s now) that I had a supportive and some would argue libertine mother. It was her my teenage peers often turned to for help and support. She was no push over though, wow be tied you if you hadn't done your homework.

@SweetNcrunchy - might have a point about experimenting, my first was was just bikini line, the second Brazilian, then from the third onwards I just went for the Hollywood and have been the same ever since. I do get fed up with the regrowth times though. Creams don't work for everyone though and do go for the spot test first. Different skins react very differently.
