Facial SPF 50 for under make up - holy grail?

JoanDarc · 01/05/2022 22:06

Looking for a new SPF50, need something that provides a good base for make up, is good for sensitive skin, non clogging and doesn’t sting eyes. Most recently used eucerin pigment control which I’ll probably go back to if no other recommendations.
In the past I’ve tried frezyderm - made my eyes water terribly, anthelios lotion - didn’t soak in that well, biore watery essence, absorbed quickly but apparently full of alcohol.
Recommendations much appreciated.

MN glitch 🤦🏻‍♀️

…on the rest of my oily face, I use Altruist face fluid. Also no issues with make up.

Mrsboathook · 02/05/2022 21:31

Altruist face fluid or beauty pie spf 50 both awesome!!

AdoraBell · 02/05/2022 21:59

I’ve been using Altuist, but not tried the facial cream. I need a full bodied spf 50+ due to recurring solar keratosis. I might give the facial cream a go.

Hope you find something that works for you OP

@Fizzgigg I used the City Block in the green tube years ago but found it much too greasy. I take it the orange one has a totally different formulation?

I really like the Altruist sun cream but haven’t tried the face one. Will maybe need to give it a go. There were a few negative reviews that put me off as I have oily skin but I do really like the other stuff they do and it’s a great price.

It feels lighter for sure @KillingMeDeftly . Full of hyaluronic acid and things so feels much silkier going on and definitely don't have to rub it in the way I did the old one a little. It's definitely nicer.

WeRateSquirrels · 03/05/2022 07:31

The Altruist face one for me too. The Beauty Pie one is nice but it stings my eyes.

ClinkeyMonkey · 03/05/2022 07:41

I use the normal Altruist SPF50 on my face with no stinging or clogging whatsoever. I tried their face fluid and it was great but not significantly better and, in fairness, the other stuff is cheaper, so I'm back to that again. I use it every day, all summer and winter as my mum had several squamous cell carcinomas removed from her face and she was told to wear a strong sunscreen all year round. I have similar pale, easily burnt skin to her.

TabithaTittlemouse · 03/05/2022 07:45

I just ordered La Roche posay Anthelios invisible tinted sun cream.

looking forward to trying it and hopefully not having a white greasy sun cream face!

motherofawhirlwind · 03/05/2022 07:55

Thanks all for these - OH had skin cancer this winter and so wants something light to wear that won't damage his motorbike helmet and gear like normal sunscreen does, those yellowy marks, run into his eyes etc... Would Altruist fit that bill?

Inthesameboatatmo · 03/05/2022 07:56

I use the rituals one in the turquoise tube. It's been very good.

Schools2023 · 03/05/2022 07:56

Heliocare with the orange packaging

Suzi888 · 03/05/2022 07:58

Yourgoodskin Boots. I use the factor 50, it’s fab

3peassuit · 03/05/2022 07:59

Ultrasun facial spf50.

MummyJ12 · 03/05/2022 08:01

Boots No.7 Protect and Perfect intense 50spf. They also do a tinted version that I use for daytime as a base/tinted moisturiser. Highly recommend!

Nixbox · 03/05/2022 08:02

@motherofawhirlwind what damages the bike gear? Boots and Superdrug both sell a solid stick SPF that doesn’t run with sweat etc and doesn’t leave yellow marks but I wouldn’t know if it could somehow damage his helmet.
Absolutely no use under make-up though!
@Fizzgigg is the City Block tinted enough to wear as a tinted moisturiser?

Onelittlepiglet · 03/05/2022 08:08

I use this too and it’s great - light fluid that soaks in easily and isn’t greasy.

Onelittlepiglet · 03/05/2022 08:09

Sorry tried to reply to someone’s post there - should say it’s La Roche posay Anthelios factor 50 fluid.

ChildDLA · 03/05/2022 08:12

Altruist facial F50.
Cheap and works really well, as does their normal F50.

ChildDLA · 03/05/2022 08:15

Posted too soon. My GP recommended Altruist to me as I have a few small sun spots (actinic keratosis) although I do try to stay out of the sun and cover up as much as possible. Altruist also do an invisible F50 spray but I've not tried that yet.

spottygymbag · 03/05/2022 08:16

I love La Roche posay Anthelios invisible tinted sun cream. Stands up to the intense Australian summer sun and works well under foundation for me. Bonus is that at weddings or all day events you can apply over the top of foundation with an applicator.

Cetaphil Daily Defence Moisturiser SPF50+
I find it nicely moisturising for my combination skin and works well under make up for me.

Another vote for this

Fizzgigg · 03/05/2022 08:30

@Nixbox not for me as it's very light and I'm very fair but even then not enough

elbea · 03/05/2022 08:39

What ever you pick, it’s only effective for two hours after application and then you’ll need to remove all your make up and reapply it.

I know it’s the daily Mail - but it is talking about the dangers of foundations and moisturisers with SPF published yesterday: www.dailymail.co.uk/health/article-10776021/This-summer-dont-let-make-risk-skin-cancer.html

I think he's worried about staining mostly, and it going manky and irritating him after a while. Thanks for the stick info though, will look at those too :)
