How do you know what to do with your hair?

What type of haircut to go for? What length, style etc suits you best? How can you possibly know what to ask for?

I find pictures on Google if I fancy a change.
Show my hairdresser, he advises if he thinks it'll suit my face shape etc!

Otherwise I had for a trim, layers and face shaping!

In my case I’ve simply stopped haircuts. It gets thoroughly oiled for an hour on a Saturday evening with hair oil from my native country halfway across the world from the UK. It then gets shampooed and conditioned on Sunday morning. Currently halfway down my back/elbow length, jet black, no grays, no split ends. I’ve just given up spending money on hair cuts and it appears to be making itself grow and shine!

I went in with hair down past my bra strap in January.. Came out with a jaw length style. Just let her do whatever she thought would look nice! Still love it!!

I've cut my own hair since first Lockdown when I bought some hair scissors. It's basically a shoulder length bob. No fringe. I just look in the mirror and cut it. Pull bits forward from the back and cut them. Do a section underneath along the nape of my neck that's slightly shorter. It wouldn't win any styling awards, but it looks surprisingly okay.

I also do DH (with clippers) and DS (with scissors, an iPad, and a lot of patience). They've both occasionally gone back to the barbers, but I mainly still do us all.

I feather a lot so it is much more forgiving than cutting straight.

Take photos to your hairdresser with ideas, but also be aware of your own limitations. If you're not the type of person to spend 20 mins styling your hair every day then some haircuts won't work for you. It also takes lots of experimenting to work out what style suits you and your lifestyle!

I just go to my hairdresser and tell her to express herself. She's good at cutting hair. It's always good.

I've wanted broadly the same hair since I was a little girl. As an adult I finally got my own way and grew my hair long. I curl it loosely sometimes. I cut it myself, some loose layers which help give it some texture and shape.

I’m lucky (or maybe deluding myself) that I’ve never felt the need post-teens to do anything with my hair. It’s long, I’ve never coloured it and I cut it myself every couple of months. I think with age you know what suits you. Aware I sound like Samantha Brick- really don’t think I’m all
that, I’m just lazy.

I also cut my own hair and am much happier with the results. You have to go along with what suits your hair type if you want an easy life - thick or thin, straight or curly - I used to spend time every morning with straighteners. Now, I wake up and my hair's where I left it the night before and I hardly have to comb it. Have a style that agrees with your hair.

I have photos saved to my phone of what I like and certainly don't like, so there is no confusion!
My hairdresser is on maternity leave at the moment so as well as photos she has told me I have square layers with shaping around the face. I also like to add no wispy bits, they drive me scatty
