Clothes steamer recommendations please

Hi. I hate ironing. I get my bedding washed dried and ironed at the laundrette. I love getting it back all beautifully ironed and folded. It’s a real treat.

I’m a careful washer so often can get away with giving things a good old shake when I take them out the machine and then hang them up without ironing. Since I’m back in the office more I’ve been buying some nice summery blouses that definitely need an iron/steam.

Has anyone got a good experience with these hand held garment steamer thingies? Are they any good? For blouses with detail/trim that are hard to do with an iron mostly.

I have vague memories of having one years ago which I used for about a week and then resorted back to the iron as I wasn’t that impressed but I do quite like the idea of being all organised and steaming my outfit the night before work. Well that’s the plan anyway! 😀Thanks.

This thread is quite old now so some of the suggestions may be out of date, but if you’ve landed here looking for clothes steamer recommendations, we’ve recently updated our best clothes steamers page with lots of great options, as tried and tested by Mumsnet users. We hope you find it useful.

Just bought a Phillips one, it ok, about 35 quid I think. No good for bedding or anything big but fine for just going over a blouse quickly.

Following as I want to do the same!

I do not iron though, very very rarely, so my standards are very low 😂

I never iron but have recently bought a steamer to run over new Next linen trousers. Quite pleased but can't work out how you'd get a crease? You have to hang things somewhere secure at the right height as it's best to pull garment down with t'other hand - I use the hook on back of door. It's a novelty at the moment and got to decide where to keep it cos if it's a palaver to set up I probably won't use it.

I have this one https://www.johnlewis.com/philips-steam-go-plus-handheld-garment-steamer-black/p3543179?sku=237480025&sppc=2dx92700069417307707&tmad=c&tmcampid=2&gbraid=0AAAAAD2el1xEV9Z7RAhyorlbYgiJ3d-mS&gbraid=0AAAAAD2el1xEV9Z7RAhyorlbYgiJ3d-mS&gclid=Cj0KCQjw37iTBhCWARIsACBt1IxE0G5sN4PuSYV0GnKgbaYhLf-ftMsfe12OT9iHDXi4IcDKpecfcAcaAtqmEALww_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds

It's fine for one garment at a time and I've found it particularly useful for knitwear over the winter eg. steaming the wrinkles out of wool/cashmere cardigans - but doesn't replace regular ironing ( and I have fairly low ironing standards).

Thanks everyone. Think I’ll get one even just for blouses. Have to resign myself that I cannot throw out the iron just yet! 😂
