Prescription sunglasses

Can anyone recommend where to get stylish prescription sunglasses?

The last pair I ordered from specsavers were designer brand but the lenses are really light so you can see my eyes really clearly.

I’ve got a pair of non-prescription ones which have really nice mirrored lenses but I can’t find anywhere that do similar for prescription.

Have you tried an online dispenser like Glasses Direct? They have a wide range of styles (own brand and designer) and all of them can be made as prescription sunglasses. I don’t know if they do mirrored lenses as I’ve never checked for that, but I’m sure you can order any style of frames as prescription sunglasses (or do things like Transitions lenses).

A good independent opticians will be able to do a range of lenses including mirrors. As long as your prescription isn’t too high there will be many choices for colours, depth or tint and mirrors

I have used this online company to add my updated prescription to regular glasses, good price and quick turnaround.
They do sunglasses too

I order online from Zenni. Not designer brands but they have a good choice of modern shapes and you can choose solid colour lenses or ones which are darker at the top and fade down.

Pretty much any opticians will do or try glasses direct online

I have prescription sunglasses from specsavers - well actually they are my regular glasses, but photochromic, so I don't have to carry around a second pair. When they are dark, they are pretty dark - but I'm in a sunnier country than the UK.

Zenni also do mirror tints, most places do them as per PP. Online very few are UK based. Glasses Direct are. If ordering from overseas they can take a month to arrive.

I get them from my independent optician who does a range of designer sunglasses. I bought a new pair last week and it cost a lot of money (designer frames with thinned varifocal lenses) but I know they will let me for years (they are replacing a pair of prescription sunglasses that I've had for 17 years!)

LadySpratt · 01/05/2022 08:15

I get to choose the lenses I want when I buy prescription sunglasses, so it’s not been a problem for me. I don’t know if that’s because they are an independent opticians though.

I agree with an independent optician.

Mine are from boots and I was offered different darkness of lenses, can't remember how many different but at least 3

etulosba · 01/05/2022 10:19

I have several pairs. The process is the same as buying normal specs. Choose the frames, then the lenses. You can choose how dark you want them. You will normally be shown examples, from a vague tint to welding mask black.

I can't see how this works. If you walk from the sun into a dark building, you'd have to change glasses. I used to have photochromic glasses like a poster above, but it would take them time to adjust and people made fun of me for having 70s style glasses.
At the moment, my 'solution' is to wear sunglasses on top of my normal glasses. That looks really silly of course.
