Finding a hair cut and colour to suit me

Ive always been a medium/light brown with long straight hair. I really feel 'witchy' looking and outdated. I'm in my 40s and feel I need to go shorter with some body/layers but I'm terrified the hair dresser will cut and I hate it. I'm really unhappy with the way I look at the moment and it could make or break the way I feel about my appearance. I just don't feel I suit anything as I feel I carry weight on my face and my nose is too pointy. I also have quite a large oval face. I went for a consultation at the hairdressers and she spoke about putting highlights in and shaping/layering it but I have spent years growing out layers which I didn't feel suited me. Help!

What about just having it trimmed shorter so it's a bit neater. It sounds like a lovely colour. Mine's light brown/dark blonde and the hairdresser just convinced me not to dye it as apparently ash blonde is really trendy. 🙃
