Is there a secret to affording expensive clothes?

Just wondering really.

We're comfortably financially but I certainly can't afford £300 dresses and Louboutins for nights out like so many people seem to buy.

Someone that I know who has a very average life/income goes on a two week holiday to Ibiza every year and buys an 'Ibiza wardrobe' each summer with expensive dresses and shoes.

Are there any secrets I don't know of?

I have an income that I can be comfortable on.
I buy good quality stuff - so Toast (on sale), Brora ( on sale) .
I buy less and try to buy good quality. I think I probably spend less than someone who spends a lot on fast fashion.
I have a low cost per wear.

I think people misunderstand peoples finances and I also think not that many people are wearing expensive dressess to Ibiza!

It's probably what you think OP. In reality you would know which of your friend is a decent earner, lower or mid.

Factory shops and outlets, I used to buy a lot of work wear and smart clothes from the likes of Jaeger, Hobbs and Kaliko, bought at factory outlets for less than half price. I don't have much call for smart work wear but I still use factory shops and seconds outlets a lot. I also use eBay.

I have loads of clothes with the labels cut in half but you can't tell when I am wearing them.

Definitely not eBay and charity shops; it's all current season stuff ordered from places like Matches!

Maybe she sells all the previous seasons wisely

I don't spend money on clothes, but I imagine that a person who buys £300 dresses is either well off or makes that clothing their absolute priority because it makes them happy.

I buy liberty print items and cashmere from Vinted. Both were under £10 each and in new condition.

Running up mad credit card bills then wondering why even if they earn a good salary they are broke.

The secret is don't have kids or pets

Higher income, being able to use income as personal pocket money due to spouse being 'breadwinner', inheritance, gambling, addiction, all manner of reasons.
Also differing perspectives.

I hear the charity one too often tbh, and considering the sheer amount of linking to original stores on here I strongly doubt everyone is managing to find every random thing second hand. I know I can't, and I am always on ebay!

Or 'I wait till the sales', when only their most shite products are actually reduced.

It also might be damn good luck. I have had my moments!

New items are easy to search and post in response to a question but that doesn’t mean people aren’t also buying secondhand. High street charity shops don’t usually post their things online and even if they did they usually only have one of each item so there wouldn’t be much point sharing the link.

Really wealthy people don't flash labels around.

that's outdated rubbish. Look at the Ecclestones or hang out where the super rich moor their yachts. Plenty of flashing!

Agreed. Also, funnily enough I feel like children from very wealthy families tend to emulate what was previously considered as ‘working class’ style. (e.g., Paris Hilton, Beckham children, Kendall & Kylie Jenner)
