Green for a wedding?

I’ve read a few posts here saying green isn’t appropriate for a wedding. Is this really the case, what’s wrong with green? I bought this dress for my friend’s wedding in July surely it’s not offensive.

Green for a wedding?

Not a real green dress?

RoseValleyRambles · 30/04/2022 10:46

That's cruel...Grin

TulipsGarden · 30/04/2022 10:47

Green is sometimes considered unlucky. But unless the bride is very superstitious, I very much doubt anyone would care?

Time2ChangeName · 30/04/2022 10:50

@FromOurHatsToOurFeet what would you say if you were asked what colour the dress was?

OP posts:
KimikosNightmare · 30/04/2022 10:52

Oh what nonsense. Your dress is unusual (that's a good thing! ), very pretty and entirely suitable for a summer wedding.

FromOurHatsToOurFeet · 30/04/2022 10:55

That's the million dollar question. I'd say more on the turquoise end of the green spectrum.

GettingStuffed · 30/04/2022 11:01

I wore an emerald dress to my friends wedding I've never heard of green being unlucky

psuedocream3 · 30/04/2022 11:04

I was told green is supposed to be unlucky for a wedding guest to wear. I guess it depends on the brides superstitions.

Time2ChangeName · 30/04/2022 11:14

Just found this online 😱

Green, however, was seen as dangerous. "The color green is the fairies' color," the folklorists explained, "and they would resent the wearing of it by humans at a wedding and destroy the wearer." These were not cute little glittery fairies; they were powerful beings who were believed to steal babies from their cribs and cause illness and death, so this wasn't a warning to be underestimated.

Yeah never underestimate the Faeries, they're bastard things.

Yeah never underestimate the Faeries, they're bastard things.

My exact thoughts 😂

Tinkerbell rocked her green dresses, so I can see why she wouldn't want you stealing her thunder, OP.

ToooTicky · 30/04/2022 16:31

Hmm, I got married in green. So far the marriage has only lasted 27 years.

Let that be a warning to you 😜

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 30/04/2022 16:38

So, at the latest count, wedding guests should avoid:

Black - like a funeral
White - might be mistaken for the bride
Green - unlucky
Red - scarlet woman

Any more? Are we restricted to beige?

Worldgonecrazy · 30/04/2022 16:40

Green ‘belongs’ to the fae, and therefore considered likely to annoy them if worn by one of the bridal party.

To appease them, you have to make an offering of milk and honey, then it’s okay to wear green.

EekThreek · 30/04/2022 16:44

My bridesmaid wore green, so far everything and everyone is fine - but we're only 14 years in so I suppose there's still time for them to get revenge?

OP, it's a lovely dress. Go for it!

YorkieTheRabbit · 30/04/2022 22:45

My bridesmaids wore emerald green 🧚‍♀️
granted, I got divorced eleven years later but green was never mentioned as grounds 😂

RewildingAmbridge · 30/04/2022 22:51

I wore green as a child bridesmaid, and mine wore green too! I've really fucked it haven't I....
