Hello so just turned 40 and feel like i should “do” something pampering and or anti-aging for my face.

I have been very lax about skin care on the basis of the “black don’t crack” mentality 🙈 but also my skin has started to get a little drier and well, I am aging whether I like it or not.

I am looking for some serum or oil to use at night. I dont have a massive beauty routine, nor do I want one. I just want one good product to use at night to make me feel like i am a grown up.

££ not £££ please.

I am black, but light skinned so mark easily. Nothing that will cause breakout or be very harsh. Something moisturising/ soothing is what I am wishing for.

Suggestions? Thank you

Advanced night repair might be a good place to start if you want moisturising but not ready for the full retinol regime. It's absolutely lovely.

I like the espa optimal Pro serum if you want deep hydration, I also swear by the ordinary squalene oil after moisturiser to get a good glow.

For proper anti aging you need to start incorporating Retinol really. You can buy over the counter, Inkey List or Medik8 are good brands. Or you do prescription Tretinoin which is a more concentrated form. You can get this from Dermatica - it costs me £20 every 6 weeks.

I'd also recommend a good Spf to avoid any pigmentation and sun damage.
Definitely check out this guy on instagram for an Spf without a white cast as you know so many of them are such crap formulations

The inkey list is a very reasonable price and the polyglutamic serum is really good

A hyaluronic booster serum will help in the first instance ( the ordinary do one, Revolution do one in Superdrug). Wet your face, slap some serum over the top and let soak in ( don't use on dry face alone). It's a great place to start as it plumps out your skin and ( in my case) then seems to accept moisturiser and oils better as a result.

For an all round serum you can't beat the Boots N7 ones. Superdrug Pure is also excellent and as cheap as chips.
If you want to get into active ingredients then you could use a vitC in the morning and start a vit A (retinol) in the evening.
It's ingredients you should look for in a serum really- peptides, ceramides, glycerine in an all round one. Most of them will contain hyaluronic acid as well.

Thank you all so much - I will look
into these! Thank you!

I always used mine on a dry face - how daft can I be 🤣.

Yeah me too originally and couldn't figure out for ages why my skin actually felt drier!
