Artificial flowers for wedding

I'm having a small wedding and thinking of getting bouquets etc made of artificial flowers. What are people's opinions and experiences? Any companies you'd recommend and do any actually look believable? It's hard to tell from photos on websites. I'm doing it more for the hasslefree aspect of it rather than cost although they do still seem cheaper.

Good quality artificial flowers look great and you can hardly tell. Especially if they are mixed in with a few stems of real flowers or foliage. Often something like Eucalyptus is added to artificial flowers and gives a lovely scent.

Cheaper ones you can tell (and smell- like plastic) a mile off. If you're able to see some samples in advance, that would be a good idea.

I work in weddings and have seen my fair share of real vs artificial and although I generally do prefer real, quality artificial are so much less fuss and wont be drooping within a couple of hours if you have a warm day.

www.instagram.com/hedgeroseandhoneysuckle/ is one artificial supplier we've worked with and would recommend.

Hassle free wise, dried flowers can also look beautiful and similarly you don't have the worry of wilting or drooping. I actually had a dried flower bouquet at my own wedding and ordered from Etsy. They've come a long way since all the beige tones and you can find some beautiful, vibrant bouquets.

I’ve got my bridesmaids bouquet from artisan dried flowers and it’s gorgeous! I ordered an expensive artificial flower cake topper and it looked like plastic tat in reality so definitely go with a personal recommendation for artificial as this looked so different in the photo.

Could you get silk or paper ones?
Hiring them might be possible

Agredd with @netofmums

I have an events business also and use a lot of artificial floral.
Lots of good companies out there. Search by those local to you and have some ideas of style you're after theme to begin the conversation.

I'm getting married soon and having artificial flowers out of necessity (I'm getting married TBD jubilee weekend and was told that they couldn't guarantee that real ones would stay fresh as the wholesalers will be closed). I went for a consultation at a local place that does fake flowers and love the result. They look so realistic. I've attached a photo of my bouquet

There's an artificial florist on Instagram called Artificial Hannah who does beautiful flowers.

I am currently doing my own arrangement using dried ones I bought online. I've spent about £250 including tape, glue gun, ribbons etc and will get my bouquet, 15 buttonholes, table and church decorations, flower crowns and hoops for the flower girls and still have loads left over (think I over ordered!)

I really like them. Doing them yourself is obviously not less hassle (although at least I can do them in advance!) and it does mean the flat is coated in a fine layer of dried flower petals most of the time but I think they are really effective. There are a number of sellers on Etsy with really nice ones for sale. A bridal bouquet seems to go for £40-60 which seems pretty reasonable compared to some of the quotes I saw for fresh.

Can't add picture but one example:

We had paper flowers on the tables and the bouquets were paper roses mixed with silk, they looked great and total spend was £60. I made all the paper ones myself, easy but just time consuming. I used pages from my favourite book series!

Doidontimmm · 27/04/2022 06:45

@TheLovleyChebbyMcGee that is such a gorgeous idea, too late for me but I love that.

alongtimeagoandfaraway · 27/04/2022 06:52

My good friend had silk flowers at her wedding decades ago. I kept my buttonhole for years and sent it to her on her silver wedding anniversary.

ilovemyelectriccar · 27/04/2022 07:25

We had silk flowers (40 years ago). Looked lovely and lasted very well.

1frenchfoodie · 27/04/2022 08:12

What a lovely idea @TheLovleyChebbyMcGee - did you colour the pages or leave plain? I’d love to see a picture.

I did all my wedding flowers myself but with fresh flowers picked up the day before and arranged in the morning. I spent a lot of time spray painting tin cans white and gold for the table displays.

MuthaHubbard · 27/04/2022 12:48

I got mine from Etsy and they looked lovely (well I thought so!)

My sister had felt flowers, she's very crafty. So it was right for her. My colleague made them.

We had a mix of dried and artificial as our colours were rust and teal. The "normal" florist did them for us.
They were lovely and had lots of compliments.
We also had a small display done for the church and they were v pleased as they could keep and re-use.

TheLovleyChebbyMcGee · 28/04/2022 03:55

So the posting has gone haywire!! That was my bouquet, book page roses, with silk roses and sparkly bits. Its 5 years old so the pages have yellowed slightly.

I used the craft paper linked in my above post too for flowers for the tables, so one 12 by 12 sheets, cut into 4 squares. So 1 rose per sheet, 30 roses per book, but you'll probably get cheaper paper books on ebay or from home bargains.

I used this tutorial

RedRobin100 · 28/04/2022 04:03

I made my bouquet up the day before and used a mix of real artificial and drier flowers. Mainly to keep costs down.
id say def do it. I also reallY love the look of the dried flower bouquets, but they could be a bit messy?

I've been married for quite a long time but we had artificial flowers as we got married on a Sunday and couldn't find a florist that would do them. I bought two ready made bouquets plus two ready made garlands and some ready made button holes from ebay. I dismantled one bouquet and made fancier button holes for the main players and did cake flowers from them too. No one realised they weren't real.

I think either go for very realistic or go the other way, so it doesn’t look like you’re trying to make them look real. All of ours were felt flower combinations and a button bouquet.

Mamabananananana · 29/04/2022 19:33

I had artificial bouquets at mine. We got married in a hot climate so didnt want to wilt
ive been to weddings where the flowers have browned by the evening
what about dry flowers?
