Cover up for a wedding?

Any thoughts/recommendations? I have a navy dress with some flowers detail to the bodice. Looking for something to go over it. But aren't pashminas etc a bit dated? Not sure about a cardigan either! A shrug? Dunno. Agh!! Any help appreciated

I have a similar predicament. Maybe a blazer jacket? Other than that, I'm stumped.

Yes maybe a cropped jacket might work?

Call it a shawl and no , they are not dated and will look far nicer than a blazer.

Blazer seems to me a far more dated concept. I don't think "blazers" generally look that good over dresses.

Dresses are either to be worn as they are on their own or if it's cold, with a coat outdoors taken off indoors. If it's still cold indoors, then a cardigan if it's not a formal event.

Dresses are an outfit in themselves. They should not be hidden under something else. A shawl doesn't hide or detract from the dress the way a blazer would.

If you're getting photos taken outdoors a shawl over your shoulders will keep you warm but you can hold it in such a way that the dress is still the main feature.

A jacket will not do that and takes away from the dress unless the dress was specifically designed to be a 2 piece outfit.

Great advice pps, that makes total sense to me! A shawl it is then.

Megan Markle's guests are imho always worth checking out for "can I wear this to a wedding".

I've seen threads on here adamant that simple floral dresses are wrong and found several of her guests wearing them.

The person on the left is a friend of Joss Stone's. Her shawl is perfectly fine and unobtrusive, although probably unnecessary as it was a lovely day.

The only pictures of guests wearing jackets were outfits like Camilla's and Daria Ragland's where the dress and coat were tailored in the same material and a couple of others with short suit jackets , again tailored in the same material as the dress.
