Glamorous lunchtime makeup look - help please!

I'm in a makeup rut (natural eyeshadow with eyeliner & mascara by day; black smoky eyes by night). A favourite lipstick & blusher for both.

I'm meeting up with some girlfriends for a posh lunch at the weekend. We haven't seen each other since before lockdown so it will be very special. A couple or them are effortlessly glamorous, and whilst I'm in no way trying to compete, I would like to look and feel good. I have time to buy some new makeup, but don't have time to visit lots of makeup departments to try out new looks.

Info to help:
I've brown hair and eyes, slightly olive skin.
Not fully decided what I'll be wearing yet but either a dress which has multiple autumnal colours or a navy and white dress.

Whilst people say age doesn't matter, I think sometimes it does, clue in my username..

Big solid eyebrows and red lipsticks not my thing

I'm particularly interested in what eye look to go for that is glamorous but suitable for lunchtime. Would appreciate suggestions - general looks, specific products, links to photos or videos most welcome. Thank you

Liquid Highlighter always make me feel more glammed up and glowy (not sure that’s a word!) I have a fab one from Becca but I don’t think it’s available anymore unfortunately.
Mascara makes a big difference, I like Benefit Bad Gal Bang and a good foundation.

Agree re mascara and using eyelash curlers…makes a big difference! Primer is a must too, if you want a look that lasts - I use Laura Mercier which is great.
Yes, it really does help to have some advice re makeup for over 50s….skin changes over time...no matter what you do! This is very helpful.

Have you looked at Lisa Eldridge’s tutorials on YouTube? Excellent and easy to follow - lots of eye makeup suggestions - worth a browse. Hope you have a lovely time.

I really like the Hourglass Scattered Light eyeshadow pots. They have a bit of sparkle, but it's a very grown up, sophisticated sparkle (definitely not glitter).

If you're not comfortable branching out beyond neutral eyeshadows then I'd grab one of these in a copper or bronze shade to press over the top of your usual neutral eyeshadow to really lift and elevate the look in a daytime friendly way. The shades Ray, Foil, Blaze and Burnish are all great ones for this kind of look.

Thank you all, lots to look into. Forgot to say in OP I ALWAYS wear mascara, but great idea re using eyelash curlers, i have some somewhere, will dig them out as i hate false eyelashes!
I'm not frightened of colour, just tend to use the same old neutrals.
Is sparkle ok for more mature eyes? I always thought that was a no-no?

Agree with Hourglass Scattered Light eyeshadow. I love it! It doesn’t age me and is definitely a way to glam up your look for daytime . I am similar in colouring to you and use the Reflect shade (champagne colour). I’m definitely going to get another shade too!

Plenty of suggestions re eye makeup.

Ok, will take a look at the Hourglass Scattered Light - looks like John Lewis sells it? Looks like something I had from Illamasqua many years ago

British Beauty Blogger is also worth a read…really knows her stuff, and she rates Hourglass. 😀 britishbeautyblogger.com/makeup/hourglass-scattered-light-glitter-eyeshadow/

I’m a similar age and did a toned down version of this for a nice lunch out at the weekend. Worked well.

That lipstick is stunning @WouldBeGood but not sure I'm that brave!

I did it with a plum colour but less dramatic 😃

Innocenta · 25/04/2022 12:18

Try the Drunk Elephant cream blush!

MySleevesMayBeGreen · 25/04/2022 14:22

How did I forget Hourglass?! I have loads of those eyeshadows, they’re fantastic. Rapture is my favourite (I have green eyes) but I love Foil for brown eyes.
I dampen my brush to make the colour more intense.

@mrssmiling thank you for telling me about Lisa Eldriidge, her tutorials are excellent and some great product tips too, not all £££ either which is refreshing!

I did look at the Hourglass Scattered Light eyeshadow pots in Selfridges today. I thought they were a bit too glittery for me now, the Hourglass consultant even said they weren't right foe me and tried to sell me some of their other eyeshadows but I want to go through my makeup stash first. I'm sure I can cobble together a Lisa Eldridge look with what I've got - its amazing how much I've got that I don't use. It might even be possible to get out of my makeup rut without buying anything new.

I have found my eyelash curlers, I used to use them a lot but had put them away and completely forgot about them.

Thanks for all the hints on this thread, very useful and much appreciated .

The Lisa Eldridge foundation is amazing by the way. Buildable and flattering.

I also really like Hourglass scattered light eyeshadows. I’ve got bluish-green eyes and I wear the shade smoke. I tend to use a basic taupe type eyeshadow first as a wash of colour then I use my finger with the scattered light to dab it on top. It’s great for daytime glam.
