One hairdresser for colour, another for cut, does anyone do this?

I recently got my hair coloured for the first time since pre-covid (had been home dyeing and it had gone horrible overly brassy colour). I loved the way she coloured it but her cut wasn't particularly great and nothing like I asked for. Would it be ridiculous finding a different hairdresser for cutting? Pros for staying with the colouring hairdresser and not moving entirely is not just the colouring, but that it's a small salon and she offers silent appointments (bliiiiis!)

That’s normal, isn’t it? At the place I go, all the staff do either colour or cut, not both.

Not my experience I suppose! The last place I went to she did both but was more of a colourist. I'm not talking about within the same salon, but going to 2 different salons altogether.

Not all, Rush salons use the same person for cut and colour, they do at the salon in my town anyway.

I’ve never had anyone do both. Same salon colour first then different hairdresser for cut. I think if I was going to different salons I’d do cut first then colour another day.

What I would do to find myself a decent salon that offers silent appointments... bliss.
As it is I have a youngish lad do my hair (very talented) but we have zero to talk about and it's awkward (probably for both!) I would just like to close my eyes and rest

i think most high end salons do this as standard as the hair dressers tent to specialise in one thing or another

TheOGCCL · 20/04/2022 19:42

I'm the other way round. Like my hairdressers cuts but not her colour so much. Pretty sure she doesn't know what bayalage is for example. I just think it would be weird to turn up with highlighted hair but do think they are different skill sets.

Yes! Fancy salon for colour (have been seeing the colour person for many years) and a local cheap and cheerful drop in place for cuts - always with the same person though

KimikosNightmare · 20/04/2022 20:21

Yes I did that for years. During lockdown I grew my hair so it only now needs ends and fringe trimmed rather than the geometric bob and the colourist can do both.

Unfortunately both colourist and stylist left the salon and now work in different salons so if I want it cut and styled I might have to go to different salons.

Yep, I do this. I have my hair cut at one place, find a good cut hard to come by with my curly hair. But he doesn’t do colouring, so I go to another salon for that. I’m very happy with my colour but wouldn’t let them near me with scissors 😅

fairlygoodmother · 20/04/2022 20:58

I do but at the same salon. But I don’t have it cut every time it’s coloured, so I don’t think it would be awkward to go somewhere else in between for the cut.

I know it’s easy to say this, but it makes no sense to pay for a cut you don’t like to avoid a slight awkwardness with your hairdresser.
