Bright colours at a wedding - settle an argument

My partner seems to think that bright colours at a wedding are a no-go but I think it's totally fine? What do you think?

The brighter the better surely!

NurseBernard · 20/04/2022 04:53

Why on earth would bright colours be a no go?

whatyear · 20/04/2022 04:57

@NurseBernard that was exactly my argument. My partner is Italian and said they only wear muted tones to weddings - which I find very hard to believe!

I live bright colours, maybe not day glo colours, but rich jewel tones are gorgeous!

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 20/04/2022 05:25

fine, just don’t overpower the bride

icklekid · 20/04/2022 05:31

Italians are generally quite stylish and I can well imagine they might wear more muted colours but if it’s a UK wedding wear what you want. If it’s in Italy with his friends maybe follow his lead on this one…

They are fine though I have been to both French and Italian weddings where the look was much more classic and muted - lots of navy and draped silk in muted colours. Each of them had more flamoyant guests but the overall look was less bright and patterned than the UK weddings I have been to.

I absolutely love bright colours at a wedding, looks so gorgeous to see a sea of colour when you look around. Pics look lovely afterwards too.

I’d maybe give the fluro green a miss but otherwise anything goes. I particularly like coral and sunshine yellow

TuxedoJunction · 20/04/2022 07:23

I seem to remember there’s something about the colour ‘red’ not being acceptable to wear to a wedding…..

Crazykatie · 20/04/2022 07:27

If it’s an Italian “style” wedding don’t overdo it unless you want to stand out as different, I would do my research and check what is usual and work from there, don’t fall out with your partner over it.

babyjellyfish · 20/04/2022 08:52

I think it depends how bright actually.

My aunt wore a low cut fluorescent pink dress to my wedding and shoved her way to the front of all the group photos.

I thought it was very "look at me!" and I wasn't a brizezilla by any means. My bridesmaids were in fuchsia and lots of other people wore bright colours.

TakeYourFinalPosition · 20/04/2022 08:58

It depends on the wedding. If it's English and no colour scheme has been specified, it's likely fine to wear more colourful clothes. If it's Italian, pastels and muted shades are more typical, so you'd stand out in a rather odd way if you went in bolder colours there. In Spain, accessories tend to be bolder than dresses, in my experience.

There's not one rule to go around.

One of my cousins wore a bright pink mini dress to my sisters wedding and really stood out in the photos - she is naturally slim and very pretty but sadly she just looked like a barbie doll!

TrashyPanda · 20/04/2022 09:15

Bright colours are fine.
black and white are not okay.

whatyear · 20/04/2022 10:41

Thanks for all your responses - this is for an English wedding and my friends have all said they're going to be wearing bright colours so I think I'll get away with it.

Will bear it in mind to go more muted tones if I go to an Italian one though!

Italians will wear black for weddings though.....
