I’m trying to help my mum find an outfit for my brother’s wedding in June, but I’m not really into shopping and fashion myself, so struggling for where to look. She’s about 5 foot, mid 60’s, wants to cover her upper arms, busty. Will stretch the budget for the right outfit. Can you help with outfit ideas or shop suggestions please, oh wise ladies?!

What's the budget?
I'm MoG at the end of summer. I think she's leaving it a bit late if alterations are needed.
Shibumi is nice but decided it wasn't for me in the end.
What is her style - mine is definitely not MoB.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 17/04/2022 16:27

What sort of things/shops does she usually like?

Anotherpassengerwantstogetoff · 17/04/2022 16:29

What is she comfortable in?

dress and jacket

coast MOTB

selection

I am amazed that all the photographs of outfits show very high heeled and/or strapped shoes. I'm nearly 62. Whilst pretty fit and still working full time there is no way I could be on my feet almost all day in heels.

Donotweeinthebath · 17/04/2022 16:47

Ha ha, definitely last minute (doesn’t like clothes shopping so has been putting this off…). Hence why I was also scant on details- no particular favourite shop, normally wears trousers and t-shirt/ nice blouse or a dress if going out. I think she’d prefer a dress with sleeves, could add a jacket if necessary (but busty so depends on the style). Not too frilly or flouncy. Budget is whatever is required, but ideally less than £300 for the outfit. Thanks for your input so far, v. grateful.

To be fair I was contemplating silk trousers with a dressy tunic coat but got stuck over what to wear underneath if so warm I needed to take off the coat so went for a dress in the end with the tunic over the top.

You could try Hobbs for that price point or LK Bennett.

Rina66 · 17/04/2022 17:20

What about either of these options from Chesca direct (John Lewis also do Chesca) - one with dress, one with trousers? I wasn't sure if you'd think it too flouncy.

Have a look at the Gina bacconi website. They have lovely stuff and often have a sale on.

This is an idea of the sorts of things they have but there’s loads of options.

Mosaic123 · 17/04/2022 17:44

Bombshell HQ website. It's ideal for her.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 17/04/2022 18:13

What colours does she like? And will she be wanting a hat?

Donotweeinthebath · 17/04/2022 19:35

Thanks all, you’re giving me some great ideas to help my mum. Yes, I think she will want to wear a hat, she suits hats. Colours- hmm, looks good in jewel colours I think (feeling out of my comfort zone here 😂).

OP if you are in the West Country, or fancy a day out with your mum, the Compton House of Fashion will sort your mum out with a complete outfit. It’s what they specialise in.

The other thing to contemplate op is checking out a racing town. Newmarket, Cheltenham, Ascot, etc. They often have specialist boutiques for ladies who go to the races. There is a good overlap.

Donotweeinthebath - I've had to be mother of bridge twice and been through the frustration. I did suitable dresses - one from Zalando uk. Make sure if you do order online for her, that you don't have to pay return postage if it doesn't fit.
Your mum could wear a matching skirt and top (of different sizes) which will appear as a dress.
As the wedding is in June, a colour match shawl, pashmina to go with any outfit she chooses.
