Flat shoes for wedding reception

Hi,
I'm looking for advice on nice flat shoes. Due to a foot injury, I cannot wear heels, nor any shoes that require my toes to grip so no ballet shoes, no sliders or mules etc. The shoes need to have either an ankle strap or possibly sling back style, and the soles can't be too thin!
I haven't bought the outfit as the shoes will be the most difficult thing for me, but probably a midi or maxi dress/ skirt or possibly trousers - happy to accept advice on the entire outfit!
I'm only going at night so there won't be too much standing about but I would like to dance - the injury is old and now only flares up with unsuitable shoes.
Any ideas?

It sounds like the type of shoes you can wear atm is quite specific.. what sort of shoes do you wear on a day to day basis?
Because tbh if you wear a floor length maxi dress it won't really matter what shoes you wear underneath.

I wore beige pumps underneath a floor length strapless dress at the last wedding i was at, i was preg and it was comfort over style for me :)

I wear trainers! And even then I have to make sure my toes have plenty of space or else my whole foot cramps.
I have sandals but none of them are suitable for a wedding - Salwaters or footbed style ones.
I thought I could easily get flat sandals with a decent sole, more delicate than my usual ones, then buy an outfit afterwards but everything is chunky or else has completely flat, thin soles.

What about this sort of thing by Lunar, soles aren't very thin.

These by Rieker look very comfy but also stylish.

I'm in a similar situation and going to be mother-of-the-groom.

If you look at wedding shoes online there are some very pretty 'wedding trainers', made of lacey fabric or decorated with embroidery, beading or even painting.
You can lace them up with ribbon to match your outfit.
My daughter-in-law-to-be is very laid back and says to wear whatever I like/feel comfy in, so these may well be my choice!

At a recent wedding I went to, both the bride and her mother wore trainers! Bride had a long bride dress, and the mother had a dressy top and full length swishy skirt- they both looked fab ( and comfortable).
I wore very low block heeled shoes with an ankle strap [https://www.newlook.com/uk/womens/footwear/shoes/wide-fit-black-suedette-block-heel-court-shoes/p/681730101]] which were very comfy.
There are lots of flat sandals int he shops right now, I've got some similar tot hisasset1.cxnmarksandspencer.com/is/image/mands/Wide-Fit-Suede-Ankle-Strap-Flat-Sandals-3/SD_01_T02_5039W_V4_X_EC_1?$PDP_IMAGEGRID_2_LG$ which has wearable soles. Pavers/Hotters/Clarks all do the sort of thing you might be looking for.
Or else go for chunky flatforms but in white/metallic.

I looked at Clark’s and M&S but didn’t see any I liked.
I saw some Blowfish ones on Office that were a bit like those Reiker ones and the Lunar ones were what I had in mind then struggled to find!
I was trying to avoid trainers only because I wear them so much.
Thanks for the suggestions!

If you're only going to the evening do, I wouldn't go mad spending money on an outfit, particularly not something you won't wear again and I don't think evening guests are expected to be as dressed up as those who go to the ceremony.

DietrichandDiMaggio · 16/04/2022 18:24

Also regarding wearing trainers, it's quite common for wedding guests to take a pair of trainers to change into later in the day when the formal stuff is over, so chances are you wouldn't be the only one.

Quite a few suggestions here, from someone who had a foot injury herself. A lot of them are thin soled, but some are thicker or would work with a thicker insole:

Sargasso and Grey. Fantastic comfort and stylish.

I've got these and they've come in handy on so many occasions.

You don’t mention your size but I swear by Clark’s Artisan Trigenic. I have them in black, silver, gold and beige.
I buy them when I see them on eBay.

THESE ARE VERY SMALL THO

Nixbox · 17/04/2022 11:16

@DietrichandDiMaggio my problem is, that after lockdown, I haven’t been anywhere nice, so everything is just a bit dated. I don’t mind spending on the shoes if they are ones that I can keep wearing.

@Bergamotte lots of nice suggestions on that blog!
@Trumpton I had those before! I tried a similar pair from Fitflop but they weren’t wide enough

Would something like this work?
Honestly, take a look at the companies that put effort into making comfortable shoes (hotter, ecco, gabor, reiker, maybe geox)and pick something in a style that’s smart enough for a wedding and relatively unobtrusive. You’ll look better than all the women who can’t walk or dance anymore after 3 hours in stupidly painful heels.

Thewheelsfalloffthebus · 17/04/2022 11:35

Trainers/sneakers will be fine too. Either get a brand new white pair or a pair with some metallic or that match/complement your dress/outfit.
