I'm 33 and I love it! Very nice tunic!

TenoringBehind · 16/04/2022 07:58

I’m the same sort of age and would feel very fat and frumpy if I wore that.

I prefer it to the alternatives posted later though.

Pinkybike · 16/04/2022 07:58

I am not a fashionable person, I rarely wear make up, spend a lot of time with horses and all my working life I have worn a uniform ( I'm a nurse)
So I think I'm happier in quite probably boring clothes, I realised recently I seem to live in black!
So I thought this tunic would be nice for when I'm on holiday in the summer in a hot climate.
I don't have much confidence in myself, I'm fairly short and chubby, I can't wear heels as they kill my feet, so all in all I find clothes shopping a bit of a nightmare!
Thanks for all your replies Smile

Must admit I hadn’t realised shops still used the word ‘tunic’!

I wouldn’t buy a linen shirt, even oversized, (too much of a cliché, like Breton striped tops) but I find linen t shirts brilliant for summer.

(Though the last one I bought - from Cos - fell into rags and threw itself in the bin after only a few months wear. I know where to buy indestructible clothes, but hate spending money on Summer dressing.)

TottersBlankly · 16/04/2022 08:13

(Sorry, OP - my last comment wasn’t a reply to yours!)

Perfectly fine not to be interested in fashion - but it frustrates me when anyone feels themselves to be excluded from enjoyment in getting dressed.

Rememberitwell · 16/04/2022 08:19

I’m the same age as you and I wouldn’t wear it although it looks nice enough and would probably be comfortable to wear on holiday.

pictish · 16/04/2022 08:23

Not my scene. There’s nothing wrong with it as such but just not my thing.

PuppyMonkey · 16/04/2022 08:28

There’s a whole load of tunics and shirts here OP - maybe something else will catch your eye. www.seasaltcornwall.com/clothing/womens-tunics

WouldBeGood · 16/04/2022 08:35

I’m 52 and am with your daughter.

But my daughter despairs of my style too though mine is entirely different 😃

ThatshallotBaby · 16/04/2022 08:50

@WouldBeGood
Dd nicks all dh’s old band t shirts and literally wrinkles up her nose at my clothes Grin
She may have a point tbf

ArtVandalay · 16/04/2022 08:53

Ah, a White stuff tunic. Good luck on here, OP - they’re generally hated on MN.

I think it’s something my (lovely) MIL would wear. She’s 85.

SallyWD · 16/04/2022 09:11

It's not my style in terms of colours etc but I love the general shape of it. If you think it would suit you, go for it.

Floisme · 16/04/2022 10:40

I will resist the temptation to ask posters if they really believe they can catch old age from clothes because you sound quite dispirited, op and the last thing you probably need is a fight on your thread.

I know teenagers can be dramatic but I'd be inclined to not take your daughter seriously if she really believes it's horrible. But there is something about it that, despite the colours and the print, screams. 'Don't look at me'. Perfectly fine if that's what you want your clothes to do, but is it?

I think it's the way it covers up your whole shape but then ends smack in the middle of your thigh. I've always really disliked that effect. If I was set on something like this, I think I'd look for something either shorter or longer.

OldTinHat · 16/04/2022 10:43

I'm 50 and wearing something quite similar today!

Well, you can ask me! I am entirely innocent of any conflation of dullness in clothing with old age. Someone suggested the tunic might be worn by her elderly MIL. My own mother is a nonagenarian, still as stylish as ever, wouldn’t wear such an item - and I’d be proud to look as good as she does.

(So there! 😜)

MrsSkylerWhite · 16/04/2022 11:19

If you like it, wear it. Doesn’t matter what anyone else thinks.

BusterGonad · 16/04/2022 14:56

If you like it then buy it, if its not your usual thing then it might actually be a stepping stone to more adventurous items for you. The colours are nice and I can imagine it will become something you reach for a lot.

BoodleBug51 · 16/04/2022 15:16

I've got loads of White Stuff linen tunics. They're divine to wear - really soft, iron easily and wash well.

I've got that tunic in my basket online Blush

IheartJKRowling · 16/04/2022 15:44

Never, never ask the opinion of clothing items on Mumsnet because unless it's from Toast or Cos you will be told you're hopelessly outdated, are wearing clothes that only a granny would wear (which will inevitably kick off a debate about clothing and ageism) and that you are an irredeemable "frump" 🙄

It's a perfectly useful piece of clothing, wear it, enjoy it. Ask for advice but don't let anyone make you feel bad about what you like to wear, especially not your children 😉

TottersBlankly · 16/04/2022 16:35

I do hope MNHQ are rapidly preparing to shut down the entire Style & Beauty board - now that IheartJKRowling has instructed them on its utter pointlessness.

Hmm
RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 16/04/2022 17:12

Oh do fuck off with the ageism.

I don't like it much, OP, sorry, but you DO like it, so you should get it, if you want it, can afford it and won't be starving yourself or your children in the process.

WouldBeGood · 16/04/2022 17:22

I do agree with @Floisme about it being kind of invisible clothing.

@ThatshallotBaby 🤣 dd and I are the opposite, she considers my rock hen style too extravagant, she’s much more classic

Concestor · 16/04/2022 17:51

It just looks frumpy to me, not a nice print or colour, the kind of thing my mum would buy because she just buys for comfort and doesn't understand fashion, and she's in her 80s.
Never buy anything with the thought 'it'll do', always buy things you feel fabulous in

ThatshallotBaby · 17/04/2022 06:56

@WouldBeGood
Ah another sad case of the poor dd getting the WRONG mum Grin
I agree with @zurala, ideally everything you wear should be a joy, realistically this doesn’t quite happen, but I think being strict about what you buy is a good thing.
@Pinkybike if you feel good in it, that really is the only thing that matters.
