Need help with 'different' clothes for my DD

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 14/04/2022 13:26

My DD (almost 12) has up to now not been into clothes at all. She lives in leggings and hoodies. In the last few months however, she's started to show an interest in clothes but everything she's shown me is what I'd call 'alternative' I don't mind this at all, in fact I like that she seems to be growing into her own little quirky style. The problem is that she's very small for her age, only a little slip of a thing and the clothes she's shown me we just can't get in her size. She found a website with some bits on that she really liked but the size guide was for women (even though the clothes were for girls) and I'm afraid to order off a site I've never used before and then be stuck not being able to return.
So.... can anyone suggest where we might get some clothes for a little emerging goth??

My ten year old daughter is a goth. She often shows me things she likes from romwe, which I think is part of shein. The quality is bad but they fit her and she likes their quirky things
She looks amazingly cool in it all, I'm well jealous.
Might be worth a look and hope you find things she likes

Haggisfish3 · 14/04/2022 14:13

I get my similar dd womens size 6/8 things that fit sometimes.

What about Hell Bunny? Take a look at the Dark Collection?

hellbunny.com/sale/dark-collection.html

HalfShrunkMoreToGo · 14/04/2022 14:24

Take a look at https://www.emp.co.uk/

Sizes tend to come up quite small across lots of alt brands so check the measurements rather than the clothing size.

ohidoliketobe · 14/04/2022 14:28

EMP - tonnes of stuff. Small sized adults and teen ranges in lots of stuff.

LookItsMeAgain · 14/04/2022 14:30

What website was she looking at?

SheWoreYellow · 14/04/2022 14:32

What height is she?

For short sleeved tops big can be ok, depending on style, so don’t discount adult sizes. Also hoodies, some look good very oversized.

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 14/04/2022 14:37

Thanks everyone, we will check out all those sites and hopefully she'll find things that will suit/fit Smile for reference she's wearing jeans today from Next they're sized age 9.

The site she wanted to buy from is "epiclyshop"

Have you tried www.disturbia.co.uk or www.dollskill.com/uk/

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 14/04/2022 14:58

Thanks, I've had a quick look. I'm not sure I should have used the word 'goth'! Now that I've looked online a bit more it seems to be better described as 'alternative' or just 'alt'

I think she's bemused at the crop tops, pastels and slogans that dominate the girls clothes sections right now. But yet the boys clothes don't offer much either (with their gaming or skateboard slogans) Why is it so bloody hard to find what she's looking for?!

Why wouldn’t you be able to return stuff to the site she wants to order from?

Lovemusic33 · 14/04/2022 15:07

My dd buys stuff from Emp, I think they now have a bigger teen/kids range too, my dd has tiny feet and buys childrens size boots (similar to DM’s) from there.

Lovemusic33 · 14/04/2022 15:10

Also look at…
Punkimage
Eggandchips

Also Shein do quite a bit of alternative clothing, their size soften come up small.

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 14/04/2022 16:29

Why wouldn’t you be able to return stuff to the site she wants to order from? well firstly it was because I couldn't figure out what size to order. It goes from XS to XXXL but the 'size chart' is for women and the XS is 34" on the chest so that's clearly not right! I'm not quite sure where it's shipping from so I was also worried about customs charges and returns etc. Anyway having done some more digging it doesn't seem to be a legit site so I'm steering clear.

She has got stuff from Shein before so I think we'll have to look on there again. It's just with Shein there is so much to trawl through and no filter for 'alternative' !

Thanks so much for all the suggestions I'll sit down with her this evening and we'll take a proper look.

In my goth phase I made quite a lot of my own clothes. Crushed velvet is very forgiving!

LookItsMeAgain · 14/04/2022 16:46

If you have a Primark near where you are, have a look in there before hitting the likes of Shein. You might find a few tops in the womens XS range that might fit.

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 14/04/2022 16:52

That's a good idea, we might venture into town over the long weekend and look in some actual shops!

LunaTheCat · 14/04/2022 17:16

Oh are you not the loveliest of Mums letting your daughter express herself and be what she wants to be.
Could you take her out for the day? I bet she would love a good charity shop with you. Take her out for some lunch and make it a celebration.
Alternative dressers often love charity shops - putting different things together to make a look rather than buying it from one shop.

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 14/04/2022 18:45

Thank you! She is one of a kind - so calm and thoughtful and clever and funny. I just want her to be happy, I honestly don't care how she wants to dress or present herself. This is all very new for her, and I think she's almost a little embarrassed at admitting what style she prefers (especially as I'm quite mainstream in my fashion sense) She'd probably love a good rummage around charity shops. I'll plan a day into town over the next few days Smile

Haggisfish3 · 14/04/2022 18:55

Yes my dd loves a charity shop!

MichelleScarn · 14/04/2022 19:07

Have you had a look together on vinted/ebay?

NowNowDermot · 14/04/2022 19:17

My DD(13) spends hours on Shein searching for this kind of stuff, isn't that half the fun? Smile And yes to charity/second hand shops, we have one near us that actually specialises in alternative stuff, it's been there since I was an indie teen in the 90's!

Iheartmysmart · 14/04/2022 19:27

Would H&M Divided range be any good? This ageing goth has found some nice things in there over the years. I second a PP though, learning to sew when you’re a bit quirky in your dress sense is well worth it.
