Bralette/crop top for v large bust

Stuffragette · 14/04/2022 09:10

My daughter, 15, has just been measured and is 32i. I didn't even know you could get i cup size. She's a size 10, 5'2 and is incredibly self conscious. I have bought her a bra in that size but she point blank refuses to wear it. She says she hates the way it separates her boobs, which she says makes them look bigger to her. Can anyone recommend a really supportive crop top/bralette? At the moment she refuses to wear anything but m&s crop tops.

She wants a breast reduction as soon as she can. I am starting to save for that already. But in the meantime I'm desperate for something to make her feel less hateful towards herself.

Have a look at molke perhaps? No wires. Soft. Supportive oddly, even though they they look like they won't be.

They have a measurement guide on the website which worked great for me.

StatisticallyChallenged · 14/04/2022 13:11

Where was she measured (I ask as most UK brands don't actually make an i cup, so I suspect she will be after a different size in other brands)

Slowgrowingelm · 14/04/2022 15:04

You could look at soft cup sports bras? One of mine won’t wear anything else. The underwires I’ve bought just sit in the drawer, I’ve given up on those now.

Blert · 14/04/2022 15:08

I second the idea of sports bras.

I would also say, at 15 she will likely grow into her body more. Her frame, particularly her rib cage, will still change proportion over the next few years and she may find she settles into e.g. 34 e/f which isn’t particularly large.

Thewheelsfalloffthebus · 14/04/2022 15:10

Try an underwired sports bra? This one in a 34j might work (There’s no i cup option but it’ll run fairly tight in the back as a sports bra.) www.bravissimo.com/products/wired-sports-bra-pr100/#lime-aqua-pr100lma

Thewheelsfalloffthebus · 14/04/2022 15:12

Blert, um, even if Op’s measured with a method that doesn’t do double letters, her daughter isn’t going to drop 4-5 cup sizes if her ribcage grows.

Soontobe60 · 14/04/2022 15:12

How about a minimiser bra?

Thewheelsfalloffthebus · 14/04/2022 15:14

The panache sports bra will look like a lot of bra but it will keep them steady and covered in a way no crop top will come close to matching. The coveredness will avoid cleavage and she might feel better about her body like that. It’s hard being young with big boobs. I hated mine for years and I was more like a 28f at that age.

I wouldn’t expect her ribs would be the only thing about her body that would change.

Non wired option. Again, she might need to get the 34j.

SuperLoudPoppingAction · 14/04/2022 15:18

Lots of women with bigger busts have got on with the longer length molke crop top. Not the shorter length one.
A flexi from molke might be ok too as it doesn't separate.

M and s non underwired sports bras also have non-separatey options.

Thewheelsfalloffthebus · 14/04/2022 15:21

Sure but why are you imagining a girl of 15 would see dramatic drop in cup volume Blert? I think it’s unlikely. Hip spread and possibly rib cage expansion, maybe a little bit more height, seems possible/likely. Unless she loses significant amounts of weight then I don’t see why you’d get a reduction in breast volume at that age. Young women often grow a bit more at that age rather than shrink.

mathanxiety · 14/04/2022 15:22

One of my DDs is a 34H. She sends her sympathy to your DD.

There is no way a crop top or bralette would give enough support for DD.

DD wears sports bras from Goddess and everyday bras from Elomi. They are pricey. She spent $260 on three bras at the end of last year, one sports bra and two everyday bras. But they do the job and they look very attractive.

Thewheelsfalloffthebus · 14/04/2022 15:26

Bravissimo does an online chat to help with sizes, I think you might need to use it because, looking closer, there is no i cup in all these bras - they go straight from H to J. The good news is that that means they’ll definitely have 32 back sizes with cup sizes that’ll fit her. Tell them what brand you bought the 32i in that fits and they’ll work it out for you.

Stuffragette · 14/04/2022 16:30

Thank you so much for your replies. She was measured in rigby and peller because she absolutely refused to be touched by a tape measure.

I have ordered a selection of bras from all your suggestions. I think a sports bra might be the answer. I have never heard of a minimiser bra. I will investigate.

She's only 5,2. And a size 10. She definitely hasn't grown into her body if that makes sense. She's still a little bit squishy. But she's delicious and I love her and feel so sad seeing her hunched over, partly by the weight and partly as she's so self conscious. Poor DD.

I have this and quite honestly it does flatten me out in a good way. I find it supportive with a relatively small bust 30G/32FF

Do you know what bra/brand r&p fitted her in to get the i cup?

This could make a really big difference to what she needs in other brands. A quick look on r&p suggests their 32i bras are all primadonna, which misses out all of the double letters. If that's correct it means she's a good bit smaller in most uk brands

Prima donna goes A, B,C,D,E,F,G,H,I (so she's the 9th size)

Freya, Panache, Curvy Kate, Bravissimo etc all go A, B, C, D, DD, E, F, FF, G, GG, H, HH, J JJ and so on.

That would, by my reckoning, make her closer to a 32G in uk bras which opens up the options quite a lot.

Bravissimo have a much better non wired selection these days. I've got thr Zara, flora and fern (and I'm bigger than your DD) and liked them.

For sports the panache underwired is the bomb, nothing moves in that thing

SpinningMeSoftly · 14/04/2022 18:06

Also she can wear two soft/sports-type bras one on top of the other.

Iheartmysmart · 14/04/2022 18:16

How about wildemode? They were mentioned on a thread not long ago and do some really nice designs. I’m a 32HH at 4ft 11” so have massive sympathy for your DD. Sometimes I feel all boobs!

LividLaVidaLoca · 14/04/2022 18:17

You want a Molke in a thunder cup.

Stuffragette · 14/04/2022 20:22

You are all amazing. You don't how much I appreciate your help for my DD. @StatisticallyChallenged that info is really helpful. So I have ordered from M&S, Molke, Bravissimo and someone else, I've lost track! There has to be something there that she feels comfy in.

It might be slightly off - cos bras are a bit like jeans, different between and even within brands - but once you've tried a few things you might have a better idea of what works.
