Rosacea Type 2 - Soolantra/Ivermectin/Dermatica

Hello,
Not sure if I have posted this in the correct thread but I’ll go ahead anyway…
Diagnosed with Type 2 Rosacea almost two years ago. Had been self treating for a year or so prior to that also.
I was originally prescribed Rosex/Metrogel and oral antibiotic (Lymecycline). I didn’t get much relief so I then tried Finecea/Azelaic Acid gel. I think I had some relief from the bumps but I didn’t stick with it for long enough to get the full effects.
I was left with awful red marks from after the bumps healed so I used the prescription service ‘Skin and Me’ for around 7 months. This was a gradual increase of Tretinoin. My skin went through cycles of getting better then worse again.
I’ve done a fine of research online and I’ve been finding a lot of studies where patients are treated with Ivermectin cream as there is a belief that type 2 rosacea is caused by démodéx mites.
I’ve just been back to the GP who has prescribed me more Lymecycline and Finecea gel. He wants me to try this again first.
I’ve found that Dermatica will
Prescribe Ivermectin in a mixed cream. I’ve ordered it to try as I am really at my wits end with all of this. My skin is the worst it has ever looked. I am literally covered in pustules.
So… has anyone tried this cream for their rosacea? And what are your results?

Yes ,I asked my doctor to prescribe invermectin cream for my rose aces and it cleared it up completely within a month and hasn't returned. I had tried everything and I mean everything and this little tube sorted it all. Hope you get the same results

MayMorris · 10/04/2022 22:35

I may have this wrong but it sounds like you’re buying ivermectin over internet or something
Do not do this
Ivermectin is a veterinary products- for cows. You will not know what you are getting buying it on line. No company is legally allowed to sell prescription medication into uk without a prescription from an authorised prescriber eg Doctor . You therefore are buying a pirated drug that contains god knows what. If it is ivermectin it could be at strength needed for cows.
The new licensing topical cream for rosacea is a specialist product and must be used under GP guidance.
Go back to your GP if what they prescribe does not work.

CiderWithLizzie · 10/04/2022 22:39

Have you considered trying IPL or Veinwave? I tried Veinwave last summer and got good results. I’ve recently discover I have ocular rosacea and am having IPL for that - wish I’d had that last summer too as it may have helped both.

If the op goes through a proper online pharmacy she will receive the correct product. I've done this for this many medications. A GP reviews your request after you have filled in a detailed form and sent photos of the skin complaint. OP I can highly recommend Soolantra- it has greatly relieved the issue for me too.

Soolantra has worked well for me, after trying metrogel, rosex and lymecycline to no avail. A tube lasts me ages now ad I don't have to use it all the time (had to put some on tonight, tenpted to drank red wine, nose now red and swollen).

I have mild rosacea with a few bumps that often flared up on my cheeks. After reading about Soolantra on here I asked my GP to prescribe it. It cleared up the bumps almost immediately.

They do come back occasionally but the cream soon clears them up again. It’s great stuff.

RonaldMcDonald · 11/04/2022 02:07

My mum uses azelic acid and tretinoin on them and for the first time in her life seems to be in charge of it.
She has been improving for over a yr with mo back sliding

AgnesNaismith · 11/04/2022 02:22

Soolantra is what you must ask for from your GP, don’t let them say no! Type 2 can be cured by this.

Chanandlerbong1 · 11/04/2022 02:41

Oh wow this is really encouraging to hear!

Sorry, should maybe explain. Dermatica is an online pharmacy. They do a consultation and prescribe the treatment necessary. It is prescribed by a qualified pharmacist.

For everyone who this worked for…
Did you have red marks left from the bumps? My face is covered in red marks from old bumps and they haven’t lightened at all. Did Soolantra help with this? Could you tell it was getting better quite quickly?

Soolantra (ivermectin cream) is amazing. For some reason, my GP says it still isn't available on prescription, so I order it privately from an online pharmacy (after a yearly consultation).

Wiredforsound · 11/04/2022 06:29

Another one for Soolantra. Unfortunately I still have the thread veins, but the redness and burning has more or less completely gone. I got it from the Superdrug online pharmacy. You will need to upload photos.

The azelic acid helped my mum’s with this.

Years ago I had pretty horrible cystic acne - I have had a series of chemical peels and laser treatments and honestly - even I can’t believe how good it has become. I can happily go out without make up now and I had horrible scars.
I don’t know if that will help you but I paid and had the full series of peels and it made a world of difference,

Chanandlerbong1 · 11/04/2022 17:26

Thankyou!
I have tried chemical peels and my face broke out horrendously unfortunately. I have heard good things about laser treatments. Hopefully once I get the bumps and pustules controlled I can move on to that!

I'm saving up for Laser treatment.

Chanandlerbong1 · 11/04/2022 17:52

How much do you reckon it costs?

OP posts:
PrincessPaws · 11/04/2022 19:11

I bought Soolantra via Superdrug, it is prescribed by a doctor and did absolute wonders for my pustules. I now use once a week or so to keep things at bay

CMOTDibbler · 11/04/2022 19:17

A consultation and Soolantra is £55 from Superdrug doctors online. I found it really efficient as a process and reordering is cheaper, plus you can message the dr with any questions

Solscat · 11/04/2022 19:25

I have also seen good results with soolantra. The dermatologist told me you must apply it all over the face, rather than just the areas you think are affected, to get the best results from it. I’m now having v-beam laser treatment (a type of pulse dye laser rather than IPL) for the residual redness that soolantra did not shift after using it once a day for 12 weeks and am seeing great results from this too. It’s quite pricey at around £350 per session but it maybe cheaper at other places. V beam is apparently the ‘gold standard’ of laser treatments for rosacea.

2lipsinamsterdam · 11/04/2022 19:41

Three years ago I was diagnosed with rosacea type 2 and prescribed Soolantra. It was very effective and now I just use it once or twice a week for maintenance purposes.

blitzen · 11/04/2022 19:47

I recommend soolantra too! I've been getting it on a private prescription from superdrug online. It's approx £30 per tube but lasts ages. First time I used it was in lockdown and I felt my skin got worse so gave up after 10 days, but a friend had great results with it so I gave it another go a few months later and it worked so well. Good luck xx

Chanandlerbong1 · 11/04/2022 19:59

Thank you so much to everyone who has replied!
I’m still waiting for Dermatica to review my consultation. Their prescription includes Ivermectin 1% (same ingredient as Soolantra). The first month was only going to cost me £2.90 so I thought maybe give that a go as a tube of Soolantra is approx £40. I’ve spent so much money over the years on different creams etc so I didn’t want to waste any more money, but I’m really desperate to try Soolantra I might just go ahead so I can get started!

OP posts:
Wbeezer · 11/04/2022 20:41

Will your GP not prescribe out? Mine did because i had tried and failed with the other remedies.

Chanandlerbong1 · 11/04/2022 21:20

Possibly - I haven’t asked to be fair. I seen my GP last week and he wanted me to try oral antibiotics and azelaic acid again but really stick with it this time. I hadn’t heard of Soolantra until a few days ago when I was furiously googling treatments. I noticed that Soolantra should be prescribed if Azelaic hadn’t been successful… maybe I should just call them back to discuss?
