Roman originals - what are your thoughts?

I ordered a jacket and dress from their store online ( since then I’ve found they have a store a couple of towns away from me, but hey ho).
Bit annoying as I like to try things on first, but at least I know I can take them to the store if they don’t fit.

What are peoples thoughts on quality of their clothes ?

………….and their clothes generally?

I had a dress from them via next that I threw away after one wear as it was all pulled but it was chiffon. Had another dress from there that I wore and it washed fine.

MeridasMum · 10/04/2022 09:57

I ordered a Roman top from Next. I'd never heard of them before but now I am aware of their website and follow them on socials.

I think their things can look nice if styled right. If not they can look frumpy.

I'm reasonably impressed by the quality of the top I bought for the price. My go-to stores tend to be more expensive so I was sceptical.

This is a 2-layer vest top in a viscose type fabric, although now I've washed it it's very clingy (static). I'm sure there's a product I can use to fix that though

I saw what looked like a lovely summer jumpsuit on there that I eventually bought when I found a discount code. When it arrived, the fabric was a slithery, heavy synthetic with a very shiny finish. Horrible. I sent it straight back and was charged for the return. Will never purchase from there again, it was nothing like the photo on the website.

FluffyWuffyToiletSeatCover · 10/04/2022 10:08

Ah right.
I've only just found out about them
from a colleague who bought a dress from there and its lovely.

I agree with a pp that some of their items can look good if styled with the right things. I actually bought a skirt there yesterday but agree the quality of some items isn't great.
I tried on before I bought & would recommend sizing down as they're fairly generous.
It's a bit hit & miss but I think everywhere is at the moment.

Cocolapew · 10/04/2022 10:11

I quite the look of this, returns are easy in Next so I might try it.

I bought a raincoat from there that I love. Very waterproof, adjustable hood and waist, massive pockets, windproof. It is fab. Probably looks frumpy but I don't care - it is so practical!

FluffyWuffyToiletSeatCover · 10/04/2022 10:15

The jacket I've bought is for a wedding to go with a dress I already have, and the reviews were great.

The dress is for hols, again good reviews. Fingers crossed 😳.

I bought a really nice cocoon dress from there for my hols, but other things I've seen looked great online but the fabrics were horrible.

FluffyWuffyToiletSeatCover · 10/04/2022 10:20

Oh daft me @Cocolapew ,.I've realised you haven't actually bought it, d'oh..

I have a couple of longer tips, for over jeans from them, via Next. Have both worn and washed well.

FluffyWuffyToiletSeatCover · 10/04/2022 10:30

So judging from answers, it's hit and miss then.

I'm glad some of you have found something that's either practical or washes ok.

@MeridasMum if you iron the top it should go back to the way it was. If you heat it too much, it will be bigger (but just wash again and repeat process).
This tip was given to me decades ago by a model friend. At the time we had a slight obsession with tops and dresses from ghost and everything was viscose.

Nospringchickendipper · 10/04/2022 10:46

I have bought a few things from Roman but we have got a shop near by which I can go and see the items.
Like the other posters have said it’s a bit hit and miss.

GettingStuffed · 10/04/2022 11:50

I think they're good value for the price.

Laiste · 10/04/2022 16:46

I've got this dress of theirs.

www.roman.co.uk/lurex-star-knitted-dress-14034636

It washes nicely and is warm. Nice with opaques and boots.

I've been toying with buying my next winter's skinny jeans from them instead of M&S for a change.

KittenKong · 10/04/2022 16:47

I drunk ordered a pair of work trousers from them and they were ok. Polyester I think but fine for work.

bellac11 · 10/04/2022 16:55

I have a jumper from there from about 8 years ago, if I didnt wear it slopping round the house it wouldl be in excellent condition (the cat has clawed it)

kerkyra · 10/04/2022 16:59

I've got four pairs of those summer, stretchy, three quarter leggings they have in about twenty colours. Really comfy and for £22 a pair very good value.

Blossomtoes · 10/04/2022 17:04

I’ve got a navy faux fur coat from them and it’s hugely admired.

I've got these as well, in black and navy and agree, really good value.

Like other posters I've found them a bit hit or miss. Some of the fabrics are not good, and some styles can look very frumpy unless styled right. Having said that, they are good for evening wear - one of my cruise evening dresses is Roman, simple shape with nice detailing and hangs beautifully. We've got a store in the nearest town to us, so I can look online and then go in and check it out in store.

They've also got a shop in the outlet centre not far from me which again has good bargains especially on the seconds rail - it's where I got my short padded jacket from. I only paid a fiver because it had a tiny tear on the front which I could easily patch. It's lightweight with a detachable hood and was just what I was looking for so I was well pleased.

Oh them! I bought a pair in black ages ago and they were/are comfy.

Couple of summers ago I went into the shop and had about 5 pairs of them in various colours over my arm. Then i decided, because of my shape they wouldn't work, so i put them all back! Something about my shape tips perfectly normal clothes straight into frumpsville.

Wiredforsound · 10/04/2022 17:43

I got a jumpsuit from there. Fabric is sort of jersey crepe - certainly wouldn’t stand too near a fire in it, but it’s really flattering, easy to wear, and versatile. Lots of it is sort of cruise ship wear, or a bit Bon Marché with notions.
