Ive seen my beauty therapist offers them - how do they work in terms of health? Does anyone have them? If so, how often?

Thanks

OP save your money and just buy vitamin b12 in capsule form if you think you need the boost, though I doubt you do.

I'm having them throughout pregnancy because the obstetrician said I should. Not sure what difference they make as still quite dizzy standing and things.

But the reason people have b12 injections, instead of taking tablets, is because their body can’t absorb b12 from food/tablets due to a glitch in the digestive system. An injection of b12 bypasses the digestive system and gets the b12 directly into your blood stream. So for a lot of people, taking supplements is pointless.

I know. I am one of those people who has to have 3 monthly injections. The OP, however, does not.

I didn't say I was wanting to have them. I was just curious as to why beauty therapists offer them and what the benefits are in terms of beauty. Turns out there isn't any.

Where do beauticians get the B12 injections from? Hydroxocobalamin and cyanocobalamin are both prescription only. I would be steering clear tbh.

DemonCat · 10/04/2022 12:42

You can buy it from European pharmacies Flora. My haematologist told me about someone self injecting and hitting something (nerve maybe?) some years ago when we were sorting out my intervals.

Not for me!

billybear · 10/04/2022 12:46

i have them every 10 weeks for a medical reason,if i have it late i am very tired suffer bad tummys.

Thoosa · 10/04/2022 12:55

Anyone can order the ampoules from Germany and some beauticians are nurse practitioners anyway.

Hey OP, hi jade a question & it's ok to ask

I've just started them on nhs every other day. Not sure amounts & only had2.
I don't feel any different yet.

My overwhelming symptoms are pain & tiredness.
I think you can get so low that the injections are needed!
If you can eat brown rice, green veg & meat you should be ok x

Tilllly · 24/02/2024 06:39

Zombie thread @Jouleigh

I’ve considered paying for them as my B12 is just below the bottom of the reference range of normal despite supplementation and I’d be interested to see if I feel more energised.

Sounds like you’re on your loading doses. Usually they start with 5 and then 3 monthly after. Wait and see how you feel after your 5. Hopefully you’ll see a difference. I get mine every 8 weeks. Good luck. The symptoms can be brutal.

Easily available abroad. I know many who self inject because the NHS won’t increase their dose frequency so they do it themselves.

"I had dreadful neurological symptoms and was diagnosed with low B12. I was still within the normal range, but very near the bottom. Luckily my GP recognised that the range was just a guideline"

I had mild neurological symptoms and took B12 supplements in case I was deficient. The neurologist said they can often help, but didn't say anything indicating she thought I was deficient.
