I'd like a makeover - which beauty brand?

I'm early 50s and would like a bit of help with updating my look.

I have mainly worn tinted moisturiser with powder all my life and have dry skin and I'd like to look a bit more dewy, less tired and just... glow. I'm also not sure how to use blush and eyeshadow as my face ages.

In the past I've had make up demos from Benefit, Bare Minerals and Chanel but these were probably 10-15 years ago. I liked them but not sure they will meet my requirements now I'm older.

Can anyone recommend a brand to give me a dewy look? Or products to try?

@Blossomtoes

There used to be a French mua called Agnes in Bobbi Brown in Covent Garden who was brilliant. If she’s still there, she’s your woman.
Thanks for the tip. I will go and see her!

@Blondie1984

I went to the Harrods beauty hall recently and it was fabulous - the consultants aren’t tied to any particular brand and so recommend what really works - eg in my trip I got an Armani foundation, YSL primer and lipstick and Nars blusher
I think going to a non brand specific person is a good idea. I will go to Harrods next week. Did you have to book?

Physical scrubs are not good for your skin, especially if it is sensitive!! Masks may or may not do much, they're mainly a marketing thing because they tend to be expensive for what they are. Look at skin and me or dermatica for a tailored skin care product for your skin type

I'd also recommend Bobbi Brown or Clarins. I was in a large dept store yesterday watching a Tilbury makeover and it was shocking. Orange glitter.

Granactive retinoid needs to be divided by 10 to get the actual active % btw. So 2% granactive is only 0.2% of retinoid. Etc.

I like my environ skincare - I've seen a massive improvement since using it

Nars or Trinny I'd say.
As others have said BB artists seem to vary quite a bit.

I'm over 50 as well so get what you are after! I think the consultant is more important than the brand.

Had an average time with Charlotte tilbury but fabulous makeover and advice from Bare Minerals.

Would really like to try Bobbi Brown or Nars though next time us know who you choose and how you get on x

A lot depend on how 'made-up' you want to look. I've had a couple of Charlotte Tilbury makeovers now and both times it felt as if the MUA's main aim was to layer as many products onto my face as possible before my time was up. I tried to stop her when the first stripe of foundation was very clearly three shades yellower than my actual skin but she assured me that 'it was a match'. End result was glamorous but definitely Made-Up. Like, RuPaul's Drag Race levels of made-up.

I've had better experiences at Hourglass counters (ie, I left looking fresher and somehow brighter without actively glittering or strobing), and also just dropping into a small SpaceNK and letting the MUA choose from different ranges.

I'm 50, I mainly wear Trinny now as I can't be arsed with heavy makeup. I'd recommend microwaving if your brows are thinning

Purpleavocado · 09/04/2022 23:01

Microblading! Please don't cook your brows!

^ just gave me a laugh

I was told to start with the 2%, finish the bottle and then go on to the 5% :)

Try Dior.
