Sunken face

I'm 32 and have recently noticed that my face has started to look a bit "sunken".

My parents never really encouraged me to brush my teeth and I ended up having 6 out when I was about 8 years old and have had 5 of my adult teeth out, again when I was young (about 16). It is the back teeth.

I'm left with 27 teeth and I have a small, petite face anyway and I'm worried it's just going to look awful in a few years.

Does anyone know if anything can be done to help my face from sinking any further. I had read that the jaw will shrink due to the lack of teeth etc so potentially it's just tough shit.

But help! Thanks

I doubt know. A dentist might be able to advise. They might be able to do something with braces/implants that would keep the shape of the jaw teeth would provide. You could check out 'mewing' on YouTube which is about how mouth and tongue posture can affect face shape and the way muscles set the bones.

Other than that it is probably most noticeable to yourself. Make other parts of you more prominent. All sorts of face shapes can be attractive. You could make hair or eyes more of a feature.

You could think about implants but they are around £2K per tooth.

The other thing to consider when you are older, if you feel really worried, is facial fillers. Many cosmetic drs started off as dentists, so they understand the structure of the face and the anatomy. Don't go to a beautician! It will cost less than implants-but it's not permanent.

This shows some work with fillers. www.cosmeticskinclinic.com/treatments/cheek-filler/

It could just be natural ageing that’s making your face look slightly sunken, I also have a small face and only have 24 adult teeth as I had loads taken out as a teen followed by a brace due to overcrowding and a small mouth, my wisdom teeth never appeared. Do you have any gaps in your teeth?
A dentist would be the way to go and see what they say? Maybe jaw exercises and face yoga would help.

Implants can help as they encourage retention of the bone material, if you’re left with gaps? Worth speaking to a dentist to explore options. Implants are expensive and not without risk so need careful thought.

I would speak to your dentist first. I don't know if a bridge would be beneficial but implants might be.
