To fringe or not to fringe ...

Im off to the hairdresser in an hour for cut and colour as (hopefully) on holiday to Florida this week 🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞.

I want to keep the length and the colour will be a lovely warm chocolate brown into a rich copper baylage type effect, if that makes sense! But I'm having an urge for a fringe. I keep seeing a curtain fringes and quite like them. Im just not sure!! What do you think?

This is my hair at the moment, it's not been done for 10 weeks so the grey is everywhere. I'm 43 and my hair has a natural wave to it but is also easy to straighten. It was washed yesterday and left so it's a frizzy mess at the moment!

Do you know what restyle you want because putting in a fringe will be a restyle?

I have one length hair like you albeit longer and I remember how long it took (in years) to grow out a fringe.

Make sure the style is what you want before you chop it and also don't do anything rash before a holiday as you will need to be able to style it yourself. while away on holiday

hellswelshy · 05/04/2022 16:59

I am in a similar quandary right now op! I am going for it. My hair is a little shorter than yours, so going for a Parisian style shaggy bob with choppy fringe. REALLY HOPING it looks good...

mrsnec · 05/04/2022 17:07

I'm the same age and I have this debate with myself daily. The thing that puts me off is that I'm in peri menopause and I hate the thought of it getting hot and sweaty and greasy since I don't wash my hair every day. It's the only thing that puts me off

If I wasn't like this and I was happy to wash and style properly every day then I'd definitely do it.

Nitgel · 05/04/2022 17:09

just get a tiny bit cut at the front, this can make a massive difference without resorting to a full fringe. ie' just get an inch or so cut off at the front

SushiShopSearch · 05/04/2022 17:11

Go fringe.

Nitgel · 05/04/2022 17:12

it's easier to go shorter than add bits on Grin

I wouldn't risk a full fringe in a humid climate. I'm naturally wavy/curly and keeping it in shape is a nightmare at the first sign of humidity.

I grew mine out (repeatedly)

A long one would be nice though!

Journeynotdestination · 05/04/2022 17:22

I’d have more of a side parting and have the front shaped a bit - your hair (like mine) looks a bit fine for a fringe.

redbigbananafeet · 05/04/2022 17:30

Don't get a new fringe in summer. It'll be plastered to your face in sweat or a frizz ball for 3 months.

RockaLock · 05/04/2022 19:35

How did it go, OP - did you get a fringe?

I'm off to the hairdressers this Friday and my hair is similar to yours - have also been thinking of a a fringe. Probably a curtain type /grown out type of fringe though.

And hells - come back and let us know how your cut goes too!

tiddlywinks2 · 05/04/2022 19:37

Hairdresser here Grin

I would say a fringe, a side textured fringe, I'd also add some layers to make your hair look less flat.

TabithaTittlemouse · 05/04/2022 19:40

Fringe vote

Glenthebattleostrich · 05/04/2022 21:19

My lovely hairdresser popped some lovely long layers in so my hair feels gorgeous and swishy and I adore the colour. It should also curl nicely when I want it too.

She said that a fringe should probably not be added for my holiday but to pop in and if I still want one when i get back then a curtain fringe would work well!

It looks great OP, and I love the colour!

Yes, a new fringe in the heat & humidity of Florida is probably not the best idea...please come back and show us your fringe if you get one cut afterwards, though!

hellswelshy · 07/04/2022 17:25

Thought I'd update on the fringe situ! I've done it, and am pretty pleased. Not going to lie, it was nerve wracking and as the hairdresser was doing it I was thinking I'd made a mistake....but 5 hrs later I'm getting used to it.

Karwomannghia · 07/04/2022 17:30

I’ve never regretted getting a fringe and you can blow it back if you feel like a change. Yours looks lovely hells!
You will probably regret it momentarily but that’s just the fear messing with you and you’ll love it again!

HowIsItMarchAlready · 07/04/2022 17:35

I am late forties and decided to cut a fringe in myself. I love it. It's not very heavy but it's made a big difference and my friends keep on telling me how much it suits me and that it's made me look younger. I also think a fringe can take little to no styling but make a huge difference to making you look like you made an effort with your hair.

merrilysang · 07/04/2022 17:51

@HowIsItMarchAlready

Was it easy to do? I've been thinking about a fringe for a while. I used to trim mine as a teen but I wouldn't know how to put one in.

merrilysang · 07/04/2022 17:54

Fringes are on trend aren't they? I think a fringe would have suited you @Glenthebattleostrich. Maybe next time

CornedBeef451 · 07/04/2022 17:55

Don't do it before you go somewhere humid!

You'll spend the whole time with a sweaty forehead and damp fringe.

SergeiL · 07/04/2022 17:58

I have very similar hair to you OP and I am thinking about a heavy fringe … I am in my 50s. I think it will be a huge mistake probably but I love being rash!

RockaLock · 07/04/2022 19:35

It looks lovely, hells - thank you for coming back and showing us!

Howmanydaysuntilfriday · 07/04/2022 19:40

Yes curtain bangs will be lovely on your hair and will make your hair look more full. Like your hairdresser said do it after the holiday and you don't want to be getting used to a new fringe while in the sun and or sea
