Highest quality shops, can we make a list?

Regardless of whether you personally like the styles, etc.
I would love to hear people's opinions on which stores still create good quality garments, no matter the price.

Just been reading this thread:
www.mumsnet.com/Talk/am_i_being_unreasonable/4484809-To-think-that-clothes-are-such-poor-quality-now?pg=8

....and thought it would be an idea to compile a resource for those of us wishing to buy less but at better quality. And I mean actual good quality clothes, not just 'the best for less', or bargains. Preferably easily accessible to the UK without enormous customs charges.

Many of us are aware of the race to the bottom, that the mid range high street went to hell in a handbasket years ago, so we are left with either the dross at the bottom (boohoo, primark) or else a huge leap in price for anything decent (margaret howell, Brora). I appreciate that many people don't have to choice of whether to choose one or the other, but it helps to be aware, so that those on a lower budget can perhaps search for the good stuff second hand.

I've just purchased items from Baukjen, Cos and Hobbs. All a bit more expensive but I want to buy less stuff of better quality.

LookdeepintotheParka · 05/04/2022 13:04

Good idea for a thread! However, often it's avoiding certain materials as I've bought really good quality items from lots of shops e.g. Next, H&M that also sell rubbish, cheap items as well. Fat face and White Stuff are the same.

I'm a big fan of Rapanui t shirts and hoodies which wear and wash really well. Their range is unfortunately limited to basics and only online because I'd love to buy more from there e.g work wear.

Agree with Baukjen - our local JL is selling this now and I'm impressed at the obvious quality compared to Hush for example. This issue for me is there's not a lot I really like in the range!

astorsback · 05/04/2022 13:06

COS
& Other Stories
Arket
Anthropology
Theory
Reiss
Joseph

Italian shoes

Nitgel · 05/04/2022 13:07

Jigsaw and Cos have good sales

evilharpy · 05/04/2022 13:20

I really like Cos quality.

Reiss still seems to be decent. Also Jaeger.

Hobbs doesn't have much I like these days but I do think the quality is still good, especially coats.

& Other Stories

Sweaty Betty is overpriced but I do like the quality

Tikiboo leggings are great and wash and last really well

beatrixpotterspencil · 05/04/2022 13:22

This is great!

It's probably fair to list the worst ones as well.

Anyone familiar with Poetry? Not terribly pricey if considering high end linen, but is it high end linen?

Terrible quality of the decade for me goes to Joules, Jigsaw cashmere (thin and bobbly in 2 wears and cost near £200), White Stuff has gone down the slippery slide also (thinner tees, sloppy design).

OP posts:
beatrixpotterspencil · 05/04/2022 13:27

decent
I have found Toast to be fairly consistent in quality but some of the designs are off.
Seasalt, love em or loathe em, quite ok.

British Boxers for pyjamas.

AncientofMuMu · 05/04/2022 13:58

I love Bam for socks and casual stuff, it lasts, is soft and washes well.

COS (just been in the one near to work, they've got some really nice stuff at the moment)

&Other Stories

Hobbs (agree about styles but they do have some gems)

My boss swears by Sweaty Betty, but I can't bring myself to spend that sort of money on gym wear

I also like Grace & Mila, a French brand that is stocked by a local independent store near me. I've got a couple of dresses and a short sleeved knit top. All very good quality and much admired when worn.

IvorCutler · 05/04/2022 15:22

Cos and Arket definitely. & other stories knitwear is good. I mainly only buy in the sales or with a discount!

Iseeall · 05/04/2022 15:31

Lands end. Very good basics, tee shirts, sleep wear etc and excellent coats and jackets.

MyNameIsAngelicaSchuyler · 05/04/2022 15:36

Raey
Lululemon

Tbh I’m just wearing clothes that are years old rather than buying more, they are far better than anything in the shops now

Fluffymule · 05/04/2022 15:37

ME+EM
Massimo Dutti
Kin at John Lewis

faithinnature1 · 05/04/2022 15:37

Baujken, bam, passenger, and thought are all good quality. I have a mint velvet shirt that is good too.

Purplecatshopaholic · 05/04/2022 15:44

I like Sweaty Betty and Lululemon for sports stuff - great quality that lasts. Baukjen quality is good and I like their ethical credentials (i personally think their pieces are not my cup of tea any more). Reiss is good I find. Me & Em is hit and miss - I buy in the sales and defo not anything polyester. Anthropologie is also good I think.

Stumpedasatree · 05/04/2022 15:59

Uniqlo, Arket, Thought clothing, sometimes Esprit.

Lovinglife45 · 05/04/2022 16:04

I spend a lot of time looking at websites for clothes I do not have the budget for. Unsure if they are all good quality but here goes:
Reiss (my dream store)
Net-a- Porter
Wolf and Badger
Masimmo Dittisham
Baukjen
Jigsaw
Whistles

If I bought clothing from these stores, I would be limited to purchasing four/five items a year. I often wonder if it would be better to have less more quality items but I like to vary my styles and experiment. I could not afford do this if spending £200 per item of clothing.

yy to the above post. I have had some gems from H&M in particular - thicker cotton Tshirts, decent weight trousers. And I picked up a 100% cotton blouse in New Look that looks higher end. It's why I am sad about the push towards online sales as I like to get a feel the quality of the fabric.
JackieDaws · 05/04/2022 16:11

Reiss is owned by Next now. Expect the quality to go down a bit.

Lovinglife45 · 05/04/2022 16:14

Jackiedaws
I had no idea. How long ago?

Idriveelectric · 05/04/2022 16:21

I'm still looking.

whiskeyfoxtrotcharlie · 05/04/2022 18:00

Weekend Max Mara quality is excellent but it's not cheap – I often buy in the sale. Another vote for Toast too, although I've only ever bought their trousers.

MollyVolley · 05/04/2022 18:12

Via a recommendation on Les Parisiennes thread a while back was en.sessun.com/ expensive but have regular sales. Wash well and anything I have bought still look good!
