Once a day Factor 50 for face - sensitive and moisturising

I’m ginger and very fair. I’m now in my 40’s and have some freckles which are so large and dark they get mistaken for dirt or bruises!!

I’ve spent what feels like a lifetime searching for the perfect sun lotion for my face that fits these requirements:

  • does not need reapplying
  • suitable for sensitive skin
  • moisturising (my skin is like a sponge)
  • can be worn under make up

Any recommendations?

I have extremely sensitive skin, am very fair and I use soltan once a day factor 50.

Cheesewiz · 03/04/2022 18:40

Also very moisturizing, I have very very dry skin

Kjr33 · 03/04/2022 19:20

You should try to reapply if possible maybe a powder or spray/mist might help? But one of the best I’ve tried or heard of for what you want is evy it’s a mousse type one and has tested really well. It’s nice to wear and fine under make up etc. it’s not cheap but I think it’s worth it.

I prefer the Bioderma and use this the most. It's very lightweight and sits under makeup well. This and the garnier one in the bottle are a light fluid type that don't smell like sun cream, are not heavy and are good alternatives to the la Roche posay Anthelios that everyone raves about (but is generally much more expensive at £18) the one in the tube is much more moisturising but does smell like sunscreen

If you want to 'top up' during the day, they do a spray version which again is comparable to the la Roche posay spray that can go over make up

I have recent;y started using this. Absolutely fantastic. Feels like moisturiser and is super cheap but doesn't make my skin flare up.

Thank you everybody. So apart from the solan once, they will all need topping up through the day won’t they.

So I’m thinking, purely for ease of use, I’ll try the soltan once. @Cheesewiz does it have any fragrance?

Must admit I am lured in by the la-Roche posay one but blimey, it’s expensive and needs topping up throughout the day.

Has anyone tried the Charlotte tilbury factor 50 primer??

I’ve been buying my husband this factor 50 scalp spray for years and recently used it on my face before makeup for an day in the sun. It soaks in very quickly (so apply as you would a priming spray) and stopped me from getting burnt. It’s quite alcohol-y and dried in quickly. Worth a punt for a fiver!

ALL sunscreen needs reapplying throughout the day . Sorry

La roche p is far superior than charlotte tilbury primer ... and a lot cheaper?!

LRP products have very high PPD ratings .

Primer is total guff unless you're going to apply around 1.25ml of it ( as is all sunscreen )

stevalnamechanger · 04/04/2022 23:38

I would consider

LRP
Garniers dupe of LTP
Avene
Ultra violette
Altruist face fluid

stevalnamechanger · 04/04/2022 23:38

*heliocare

millytint44 · 04/04/2022 23:39

Clinique cityblock? It's got foundation style coverage.

Aliceforgot · 05/04/2022 00:10

I use La Roche Posay. I have tried many. Similar skin.

Are they moles or freckles? Sorry to derail the thread, but if your moles have changed recently they should be seen by a doctor.

Knobblybobbly · 06/04/2022 01:05

Definitely freckles. Have attached picture.

I don’t really have any moles anywhere. It’s basically like the freckles in my face have decided to join forces and merge into large patches of pigmentation rather than tiny little dots sprinkled attractively across my nose.

I have them elsewhere on my body where they just look like birth marks.

So how do people reapply if they wear make up? I don’t really ever wear make up as I’m too lazy, but I live in hope that one day I will make the daily effort to look more human!!!

There are SPFs that you can wear with makeup (or at least market themselves as such) but it’s trickier to get right. I personally don’t wear foundation because it messes up the SPF and I’d rather improve my actual skin than cover it up.

For hyperpigmentation like yours, you could try a dermatica prescription - I started this a month ago and it’s already improved the state of my skin.

For SPF I use anything with UVA 4 or 5 stars and SPF 30 or 50 - the UVA prevents further pigmentation/aging and the SPF prevents reaction to the prescription. There’s a Soltan one that says it lasts all day, but it’s quite thick, so I actually prefer a regular one and just reapply it once or twice.

TheDaydreamBelievers · 06/04/2022 07:20

I love cetaphil SPF 50.

In general for hyperpigmentation - SPF is key, plus retinol, plus a targeted treatment like eucerin hyperpigmentation serum, plus potentially dermatology treatments like laser.

BrickingIt44 · 06/04/2022 07:24

Boots have a good once a day application face spf. I've been using it for years. It makes my face a bit shiny but I just dust light powder over it before applying make up and that covers it.

I use this Ultrasun one if I’m going to be outside a lot, not everyday. Really expensive though.

CheeseMuffin · 06/04/2022 07:35

La Roche Posay make some good sunscreens but they are owned by L'Oreal, who also own Ambre Solaire (among others) so quite often their sunscreens are dupes of each other. Only difference is that AS is a fraction of the price of LRP! They also do an over makeup sunscreen spray, though it's not as invisible as they claim.

Sunscreens break down with exposure to the sun, so if you're going to be outside all day then you need to reapply every couple of hours. But if you apply in the morning and are indoors for most of the day they you don't need to reapply as often.

Caspianberg · 06/04/2022 07:44

I have started using Louis widmer day cream with uv 30 in it. It’s really good as a day to day cream.

I also use piz buin factor 50 face when it’s sunnier or to take out and top up in summer. It’s one of the only sun creams that does sting my face/ eyes.

TwoBigNoisyBoys · 06/04/2022 07:50

I use Biore Watery Essence, f50 and the texture of a thin serum so it goes on nicely under make-up. I think it’s Korean? Highly recommend 😊

Howeverdoyouneedme · 06/04/2022 07:54

I use La Roche, best one I’ve tried.
