PLEASE HELP! Allergic reaction to eyelash lift and tint

Aghhhh! Woke up this morning with itchy eyes. Went to the mirror and nearly screamed. My eyelids are so puffy and dry and itchy. I had a eyebrow wax and tint and eyelash lift and tint three days ago. Patch test beforehand was fine. Everything was fine at the time, now this!

Chemist isn’t open today. I have a job interview in person tomorrow. I am going on holiday on Thursday! What can I do???

Is there any magic pill I can take or cream I can buy from the supermarket?

Antihistamine? Go to a chemist and see what they suggest.

MrsWooster · 03/04/2022 09:05

Sorry- didn’t read properly! Google another chemist-there’s always one nearby.

YellowHpok · 03/04/2022 09:05

Antihistamines like piriton are available from supermarkets. There will be a local pharmacy that is open on a Sunday, so find it and ask them for advice, they are perfect for this query.

Thanks you. Live in rural Scotland and no chemists open within 50mule radius. We do have a supermarket though so I’m heading there now to see if I can get anything from their medicine section to take away the swelling

Wow - you really are rural! Good luck!
JuneOsborne · 03/04/2022 09:48

Buy chamomile tea bags while you're at the supermarket.

Steep a load in a jug of boiling water. Allow to cool and out the jug with the tea bags into the fridge. When they're icey cold, use the tea bags as a compress. It'll really help the itching and should help with the swelling.

You can dip cotton wool pads in the tea and use them in the same way.

Hatinafield · 03/04/2022 09:50

Anti histamines and cold compresses would be my suggestion. Sounds horrible, sorry Flowers

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 03/04/2022 09:52

Get Piriton liquid as you can take multiple doses during the day. Cold compresses help.

CoffeeLikeToffee · 03/04/2022 09:53

Anti histamines are a must but it won’t be back to normal tomorrow I’m afraid.

You poor love

TyredAlways · 03/04/2022 10:05

Thanks all. Heading there now and will get the one I can use multiple times a day and the tea bags!

Here are my eyes immediately after the treatment and second picture is my eyes this morning.

I can’t believe how delayed the reaction was! My teenage daughter was asking for this treatment too - no chance! Funnily enough, my patch test areas are still fine. I think it might have been the tint rather than the chemical in the lift treatment since my brows are sore and itchy too?

Hoping for some improvement by tomorrow!

If not, then my local (well, twelve miles away) chemist is open tomorrow so I’ll head there first thing.

Oh bless you.
(Your eyelashes do look lovely though)

Fraaahnces · 03/04/2022 10:21

Just letting you know that this kind of reaction can be really, really serious. Please go to A&E if antihistamines don’t resolve this issue. It is also important for you to know that you may now have an allergy to hair dye as well. Here is some info about this from the NHS. It is vital that you realise that these reactions can get worse each time.

HeyBlaby · 03/04/2022 10:29

I had exactly this, antihistamines and eye drops for itchy eyes, took about 3-4 days to resolve.

HeyBlaby · 03/04/2022 10:30

And A&E as per a previous poster is overkill if it remains as it is but doesn't resolve (also a nurse)

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 03/04/2022 10:53

Oh yes, antihistamine eye drops are fantastic.

Likely to be the tint, a friend had it.

Fraaahnces · 03/04/2022 11:10

@HeyBlaby - also nurse. Please read my post. I said “if antihistamines don’t resolve the issue.”

astorsback · 03/04/2022 13:22

I had this from eyelash glue. Took a week to resolve. mine was redder than yours though and I had more fluid in the inner corner of my eyes.

CutesyUserName · 03/04/2022 13:27

I had the same reaction (eyelash glue). Unless it goes down quickly with antihistamine use, you really need to see a doctor/medical professional.

I had the (individual) eyelashes removed and it still took 2 rounds of steroids and almost a month (YMMV) before my swelling went down.
