Hair - stringy ends, what to do!?

I'm not too fussed about this, as I like my hair long, but I do wonder if it might be better lopping a few inches off?

It's just to bottom of shoulder blades now so not super long.
Some details:
*I'm in 40's
*Hair is fine but lots of it
*Naturally porous and wavy, tendency to frizz (doesn't bother me)
*Still blonde but a bit darker now as older

Thing is, as it grows long, the ends look stringy (like all the thickness is from root to mid length), no matter what I do to it. It looks 'see through' and wispy if that makes sense as it gets to about 4 inches from bottom.
It's healthy enough, I sometimes blow dry it straight, but mostly don't bother. But I think the long hair I'd have in my mind isn't what I've got!
It's nice enough but maybe it's finer at ends due to it's texture as I treat it quite well, use good shampoo/conditioner, etc.

I often toss it into a braid, but even the braid goes super thin at the end! I would love to wear it loose more, but the stringiness puts me off. If I remember correctly it is a bit better when shorter but I can't do nice braids or stuff then..

Anyone else's hair like this? I eat healthy and all of that, so I think this is the best it can do, it has always had this tendency even when i was young.

Would you trim it so that it looks thicker at ends or just keep it long and get on with my life and updo's ? Grin

Have you tried Olaplex? I have very long hair and once or twice a fortnight I do a combo Olaplex 0 and Olaplex 3.
Try it before you cut.

A couple of times, no difference. I get on well with the elasticiser though, but it doesn't help the sparse ends. I guess I would have to add hair that isn't there to cure it!

I think it's my hair texture, sadly, it is a bit atmospheric/flossy.

Bit of both. I trim mine (myself) when it starts looking ragged at the ends. Just an inch off can make a lot of difference. But apart from that I use hair oils and serums and thickening shampoo and conditioner which helps. I have a silk pillow case and am very careful with bags and doing zips on coats so it doesn't get trapped in them. If you will only wear it up because it is straggly might as well trim a little off it. Otherwise curling it can disguise the ends.

As in curling it under at the ends (appreciate your hair is wavy).

Thanks, will try thickening shampoo on lengths.
It is still like this when curled, i can't escape it!
