Too much sun etc over the years and now I am 53 and have these ugly red veins on my face. Any ideas how I can cover them please. Guess I can’t reverse them, can I?

I have them around my nose and was going to research laser.

ReeseWitherfork · 02/04/2022 17:52

I don’t know about reversal or even “treating” but can probably help with covering. I use stila one step correct (it’s a swirly bottle) and I find it incredible at evening out my skin tone. Any green primer should do it. But I find this one particularly good. I think they do an all green version which might be worth trying. I don’t wear anything else with it, just rub a bit of that on in the morning and it makes the world of difference.

I had my thread veins treated at my local beauticians with lasers.

As a warning, it hurts (a lot), the best way I can describe it is being hit in the face with an elastic band, however, I am a total an utter wuss so don't let that put you off too much. It's like a quick sharp pain that's gone in an instant. After I had my treatment my cheeks looked like a porcelian dolls, so clear. Some of my thread veins have come back because there is a feeder vein (don't fully understand the science). However, I'm so so happy with the results, I wish that I'd had it done years ago. I feel so much better looking in the mirror and less self conscious.
I've been trying to cover my thread veins for over a decade and no product I ever found covered them successfully, at least not by the end of the day.
My local beauticians charge £25 for a test patch, which was enough to establish I was a suitable candidate and also showed me how effective it was. I went back and had more treatments which were more expensive (depends on how big an area you want doing).

Green colour corrector

EmmaH2022 · 02/04/2022 23:08

There's Doll 10 TCE foundation. It stands for This Covers Everything. I think the lady who made it has a port wine stain. It might not be made now but it's on ebay.

Would Estee Lauder Double Wear work maybe? You could try a sample?

Volver · 03/04/2022 09:56

Clinique Redness Solutions makeup is excellent to cover broken capillaries.
I also like the IT CC foundation but that’s a bit thick whereas Clinique is light fluid and doesn’t settle into pores:lines and you can apply with fingers
If you can go to a store Clinique counter to be colour matched and get a sample

I was beginning to get some and I stopped drinking alcohol completely (not just because of them and they have gone.

Aquarella · 03/04/2022 15:10

I also had a few on my nose until i cut back the wine drinking, now all gone! Def worth trying first before parting with money, unless, of course, you don't drink!

ComeBackPeterComeBackPaul · 03/04/2022 15:51

I am not a very big drinker but will cut it out and see. I am interested that they can disappear - I didn’t know that. In the meantime I will get some green magic cream.

You can get them removed at any SK:N clinic. Otherwise a thick concealer like Mehron tattoo cover Conceal applied using a very fine brush - fine paintbrush would do

Newestname002 · 03/04/2022 16:16

Dermablend? I've not used it but have read it gives good coverage - been around for a while I think.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 03/04/2022 16:20

I would use CeraVe wash and moisturiser for a few weeks and see if that helps. A buffing brush and a small about of Estee Lauder Double Wear would tone that right down, the secret is to get properly matched and don't try and guess your shade yourself.

URMyStarship · 03/04/2022 16:22

Following with interest. I have similar but am tee total and a total vampire (have never sunbathed, wear factor 50 every day) so no idea why I developed them in my 40s?!

Dermablend, IT CC and Doublewear - don’t work for me. Bit cakey, too. The green primers calm the redness but don’t cover up completely.

Will investigate other recommendations here, though!

Likeli · 03/04/2022 16:25

I find niacinamide really helps reduce redness and inflammation, along with spf EVERY day.
I also like the IT cosmetics your skin but better CC cream, it tends to go patchy if you have very oily skin (I do) and you need a good setting powder. But it has good ingredients: hydrolyzed collagen, peptides, niacinamide & hyaluronic acid. Which end up improving the appearance of skin imperfections including redness, dark circles and reducing the appearance of pores.

indecisivewoman81 · 03/04/2022 16:34

I would try using a green colour corrector and dabbing it in. Then putting foundation on and blusher

themessygarden · 03/04/2022 17:38

I had laser a few weeks ago for mine, cleared them all up, couldn't believe it !! Some have come back , but I go for a top us session next week so really hoping they will all be gone.

I went to a dermatologist rather than a beauty salon, maybe have a consult and see if your skin is suitable.

I am so, so happy with the result.

LadyHenryofRawlinsonEnd · 03/04/2022 17:48

When I had my wine-induced nose veins i used to cover them with the green corrector then a dab of bobbi brown concealer, the one on a wand. Worked extremely well and low effort :)

MicroC · 03/05/2022 10:45

Hi, I’m a bit late to the party but have you looked at ThermaVein. It’s a safer alternative to laser….

SSD1975 · 23/01/2023 20:16

Hi all,
Commenting on this old thread in hope that some of you still are around!
I'm really interested in treatment for thread veins in the face (similar to @ComeBackPeterComeBackPaul picture, but worse). Cutting out alcohol and caffeine did has not helped. I love in London and have done lots of googling but prices are eye wateringly expensive - around £200 for a consultation seems to be normal. Has anyone had treatment in the London area and can recommend a place? Laser or Thermavein - I'm looking into both options.

I understand that if going with laser you have to avoid sun for months (not a problem) and selftan (big problem - people literally ask me if I'm unwell if I leave my skin au nateurel). Has anyone used Thermavein and know if that comes with similar restrictions?

Anyone that has had treatment and it did not work? I'd go crazy if I spend this years holiday budget on this and it's money down the drain....

Sorry for the ramble - super grateful for any advice 🙏
