Any seamstresses about?

Ordered this dress and it arrived this morning.

LOVE the fabric, love the print, love the shape, but the neckline is a no on me –my boobs look ridiculous.

If I took it to a dressmaker, would they be able to change it to a v-neck?

Or is the panel around the top edge going to be a problem?

I'm a home dressmaker, not a seamstress, so...

I think it would be hard to alter. The band around the top is a very definite style. It might be possible to remove it and remodel the straps and neckline, but you'd need a good half metre/metre of extra fabric.

I wouldn't attempt it (but see above)

Too do it well you'd need extra fabric

A 'V' could just be cut in a hemmed but it would look like a botch job I think

Unless you got matching/contrasting fabric and replaced the yoke and the straps

Gah. Figured that would be the case.

How frustrating!

Thank you, everyone - back it goes, I suppose...

Agree with sewing alterations..I couldn’t do this without slicing a lot of the bottom to scavenge fabric
Alternative is to wear a long necklace…something chunky that will create that v shape and an optical allusion to distract for an”wedge” of boobs ?

fromagreatheight · 28/03/2022 13:42

@MayMorris that's a good idea, and I think it would be one of those where I was always a little bit disappointed that it's not what I had hoped!

Like relationships, I've learned that if I have to really try hard to make a dress work, it's probably not the dress for me!

But thank you for offering an alternative –I appreciate it!

You could wear a thin scarf around the neckline, or you could move the straps to make the square shape narrower or wider
