Hi All, I have developed a corn on the outer side of my big toe and it has become painful. Anyone have any recommendations for what to do with it? I've never had one of these awful things before 😕

Best thing is to go to a chiropodist. If you want to treat it yourself, Bazuka gel is very good. www.bazuka.co.uk/treat/gel

Iluvfriends · 28/03/2022 10:02

Corn plasters are excellent.

Fjea · 28/03/2022 13:55

Stop wearing whatever new shoes you have that have caused it.

Meggymoo777 · 28/03/2022 14:52

Thanks a mill for the advice, I'll pick up the Bazuka gel. Do corn plasters work to get rid of the corn or just relieve pain?

I would go to chiropodist and have it removed. They can also check the toe to ensure that it is not caused by a structural problem, like a bunion forming. Once that’s done, you can buy silicone toe protectors to avoid it forming again.

lindyloo57 · 28/03/2022 16:21

I get one every year, where my toe rubs against another toe, I use the Bazuka gel, the one where you get the plasters with it, it works very well.

Grandadwasthatyou · 28/03/2022 16:27

Just a note to say that a chiropodist friend of mine says she does not recommend corn plasters as the acid designed to burn the corn away also burns the surrounding skin.

lindyloo57 · 28/03/2022 16:50

I use it every year, with no problems

Gonnagetgoing · 28/03/2022 17:04

Don't whatever you do use a corn knife or corn scalpel on it! Years ago I did that with one - the blood that oozed out was incredible! Shock

Arucanafeather · 28/03/2022 17:34

I would get it checked out - NHS website links to a list of podiatrists - as warts like verrucas can look like corns on the toe.

EmpressCixi · 28/03/2022 17:39

I also recommend bazuka gel it works on corns and verrucas equally well. You can always have a consult with the pharmacist if you are unsure whether your corn requires a doctor visit. Most do not.

Meggymoo777 · 28/03/2022 18:47

Okay, plenty of votes for the Bazuka so will pick that up. From those that have used it, how long does it generally take to fully remove the corn? My job requires me on my feet a bit so if it disimproves any bit ill definitely get pharmacist/GP to have a look. Thanks All

Definitely have it cut out by a chiropodist

WowIlikereallyhateyou · 28/03/2022 19:16

Foot specialist here, bazuka gel is for verrucas, not corns! Corn plasters are not good either. Both of these things will burn skin, and generally not remove the corn properly. A visit to a foot health professional or podiatrist will remove the corn. Do not trouble your Dr with a corn, and a pharmacist will only sell you a product that won’t get rid of the problem.

Dogmum40 · 28/03/2022 19:20

I have one regularly in the same place as you. ( hazard of my jobs footware unfortunately) I cut mine out by ( carefully) cutting away the hard skin first and there’s usually a harder core in the middle so cut that out too! If your worried go to a specialist but you can cut it out yourself if your in agony like I usually am

BacardiOnATuesday · 28/03/2022 19:22

I use a corn scalpel. Needs caution but is very effective if you are careful.

Taken from their website; "Bazuka Gel is a clinically proven treatment for verrucas, warts, corns and calluses,"

I've had 100% success rate with corn plasters - they are brilliant in my opinion. The've never burnt my skin, and while right up until almost the last day it looks like they aren't working, suddenly they do.

WowIlikereallyhateyou · 28/03/2022 19:56

Sueelleker, you don't properly treat corns with acid. It is a very poor and inefficient way to remove corns properly, it can also cause major skin irritation and ulceration in some people. However, what do I know!!!
