Crocs/Replica Crocs

I know they’re neither stylish nor beautiful but wasn’t sure where else this post would go as there’s no functional & ugly board!

Basically I am after a pair of crocs for an upcoming holiday where we’ll be in and out of the water a lot and wanted to know if anyone has a pair. I was surprised how pricey they are since the replica ones are so so cheap. Is it worth paying the extra? I can’t get into the shops anytime soon to try them/see them. Are the ‘real’ crocs much comfier/better than the Asda specials? I could spend the extra but obviously if it’s not necessary I’d be happy with the cheap ones.

I suspect the Asda specials won't have the proper footbed support

sweetkitty · 28/03/2022 07:03

I’ve just bought DD2 another pair for our holidays, I was shocked the real ones are now £40 in the shops but I got them for £28 on the crocs site. I personally think the real ones are worth the money, they last years we all wear them for nipping out the back garden. They have some that aren’t as ugly as the originals DD3 has slider crocs. I really think you can tell the difference in quality..

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 28/03/2022 07:06

The real ones are a lot more comfortable and long lasting.

duvetdayforeveryone · 28/03/2022 07:39

I bought a pair of crocs from Amazon this weekend for £13.99 (I have size 4 feet).

Kanaloa · 28/03/2022 07:41

For £13.99? The ones I saw were very expensive, I was a bit shocked as I presumed they’d be cheap! But it seems like splashing out on the real deal is the way to go. I was a bit concerned that the cheap ones would be really uncomfortable and plasticky to be honest. Might see if I can steal an afternoon next week and try a pair on, I think that would make the difference - if I could experience how comfy they are I wouldn’t feel so reluctant to part with the money!

Real ones are much nicer. Much more comfortable and more padded underfoot.

If you look on Amazon you can often find them for half the price.

Mumdiva99 · 28/03/2022 08:18

I hated crocs but my kids wore them all the time. They have had fakes and real ones. You can get good fakes and rubbish fakes (straps break etc). The real ones last and last. I finally gave in and bought my own.....go up a size. They are more comfy.

Alternatively get some water shoes like these...

They are horrible but really comfy! TKMaxx sometimes has them (though I don't think I've seen any in there recently). Good luck!

BreakfastOfWaffles · 28/03/2022 08:52

If you're not bothered about colour you can often get the real ones for less on Amazon. They seem to sell off the less popular colours there.

cherrytree63 · 28/03/2022 08:54

Real crocs are more flexible and cushioned than any of the fakes I've had.

Hoppinggreen · 28/03/2022 08:56

We have bought fakes for the kids when they were younger and growing out of shoes quickly but they tended to rub, which we’ve never had with the real ones. Plus they last for literally years, I think mine are about 15 years old and still look ok

tsmainsqueeze · 28/03/2022 08:59

I wear crocs every day at work , proper ones are so much better , copy ones are ok to wear every now and then but the sole is so much thinner than real crocs.
BUT , with both types when the tread wears they are absolutely treacherously dangerous on wet surfaces , this aspect of crocs bothers me because so many must get thrown away when the rest of the shoe is perfectly fine.

rbe78 · 28/03/2022 10:06

What is it you want them for?

They're super uncomfortable when wet, your feet just slip around in them.

If you're at the beach, or canoeing, paddleboarding etc., I second a PP's suggestion to get water shoes instead.

I have the £8.99 ones from Decathalon - they have some slightly fancier ones too:

@rbe78

As I said it’s for a holiday - visiting family at their home in a hot country by the sea. Not paddle boarding or anything like that! Just generally up and down to the beach! I really struggle with sandals - have tried loads of different ones but always end up with badly blistered feet especially on the top of my foot, it’s horrible.

Think the consensus is that (as almost always) you get what you pay for, so think I will have to splash out on the real thing!

Interesting that the tread wears down quickly - wouldn’t be too much of a problem for me as I wouldn’t be walking miles but I agree it must result in loads of shoes being thrown away when they’re still otherwise ok.

I've had both asda and proper crocs. Real ones still going strong at least 10 years later (only use for going in the garden now though) bought when I broke a toe as only thing I could wear for weeks. Cheap ones, although perfectly comfortable initially seem to be made from a different plastic that goes harder with age and the grips wore off making the soles slippy. I actually skidded on a path and ended up in pain for months as tore a ligament. I certainly won't be buying cheap ones again!

imperialqueen · 28/03/2022 13:25

I have never bought the real ones but I have a pair from aldi that are very comfy and have had for a few years. I recently bought a pair from lidl but they are brick hard and can't wear them. I also tried on a pair in primark which were also very hard. I am desperate for aldi to get them back in again as would like them in a different colour. I might invest in the real ones. I wear them in the house instead of slippers, as walking on hard wood flooring in bare feet hurt my feet.

pupcakes · 28/03/2022 15:54

Definitely real, cheaper on amazon if you don't mind the colour

KirstenBlest · 28/03/2022 16:08

They are great for wearing on a beach. I have fakes and a few Crocs.

The fakes are ok. They were from Aldi and Primark.

If you are getting the proper Crocs, watch the sizing.

At the weekend I saw a beautiful young woman wearing crocs with a stylish jacket and trousers and she looked elegant
